Debt, debt, and more debt

It is because I’ve been in that environment before. I would like to think I’m self aware enough to know what makes me happy.

@jewishkidaz,
What blossom, one of the most well versed and well respected posters on cc, is trying to tell you, is that your plan may seem reasonable to an idealistic 18 yr old, but it has many potholes that can cause more harm than good, even if you did get into Cornell as a transfer. Unless there is a huge set-aside from the settlement of your mom#1’s malpractice case for your education (am assuming she got a settlement if there was clear malpractice that left her permanently disabled), you will be facing significant debt if you can somehow come up with the funds to attend even before you face possible law school and its expenses. While yes, your chances of scoring an IB job may be better coming from an ivy, they are not the only entree into IB. Will assume you’ve looked into summer internship opportunities through Syracuse http://careerservices.syr.edu/internshipsjobs/internships/faq.html . You may be able to back door your way into finance jobs that way, though they may be less likely to look for a rising sophomore,.

What every parent is trying to tell you is: sure an Ivy pedigree is great, if thats what you want, but if you cannot afford it, you have to be realistic. I know of a young lawyer who had plans similar to yours. He ended up at a good (not fabulous) law school and got a good (not fabulous) non-partner track job at an OK firm, but is saddled with over $200K in debt. He can’t afford to buy a new car (where we are located, public transportation is not ideal), can’t look into home ownership, etc. with his huge debt load. This was not what he planned or envisioned when he was a young, starry-eyed student.

Try to separate reality from fantasy, and kindly don’t tell posters who can/cannot or should/should not post in a thread. Its rude and its probably against the TOS. There are many knowledgeable and experienced posters who have shared their comments. You can keep an open mind or not. Your choice.

@jym626 I respect your post immensely, it was relevant and informative. Blossom’s on the other hand was entirely ad hominem and I most certainly didn’t make this thread to be insulted with no legitimate contribution to come from it.

Thank you for keeping an open mind. Blossom can speak for herself. If you feel a post is an attack, report it to the mods and let them decide.

MODERATOR’S NOTE: I don’t think there is any more advice that can be given the poster. Closing the thread.
