Harvard "encourages" applicants to send the apps by dec 15, but I find out the results of a competition a few days after that deadline. Is it worth waiting until I get those results or is it looked down upon to send the stuff after december 15?

Send your app in by Dec 15. If your results from the competition are favorable, by all means send an update. Good luck in your competition.

I disagree with the statement above.

Harvard is “encouraging” to submit your application by Dec. 15, because they do not want a flood of application coming in at the last moment. Harvard gets 30,000+ apps and it helps them greatly if they can sort them out as soon as possible. They don’t even start reading the applications until mid-January. You sending your app after Dec. 15th won’t affect you at all. Besides, sending an update is more hassle than you need.

Do NOT send it on 12/15 if it is not ready.

2bornot2bivy is dead wrong, with respect.

Honestly, I know plenty of applicants who were accepted whilst submitting it on December 30th or Jan 1.

I had a similar situation for EA - just wait a couple days and send it. Thats fine. I sent mine on Oct 23 for a Nov 1 deadline with recommended Oct 15, and got an interview by Nov 3/4, even with the snowstorm
