** This thread is created simply for students to post their scores of Dec 7th Sat and to discuss what they did to get those scores. Just a pledge basically to post scores. It would be nice to have a thread full of just scores and advice. Instead of Sat scores and advice being all over the place. This is not made to replace other advice threads, if you want advice just continue to search CC and you will find it like: xiggi, silver turtle... **

** On Monday scores will be released **
I will also post my scores.

Template is:

SAT Dec 7th score(M;CR;W+essay):
(If taken it before dec7th)
Prior Score(s) + date taken:
PSAT score:

Top College Choice:

(p.s) If anyone has a better template please provide it. It would be helpful in fact. I just want to bring students together and share information and to help sophomores and juniors. Also, if you want to add anything you can. Lets try not to respond a lot before Monday, So the thread can be simply information and not random text.

12/13 - 1820
11/13 - 1710
10/13 - 1680
PSAT score: never took one (bad choice, partially because I didn’t begin to seriously think about college until second semester of my junior year)
Blue book, princeton review, College Board online practice test
Whatever floats your boat, couldn’t get my math score up no matter how well I did on the practice tests
UCSD

The math section basically ruined my chances at any of the schools that I was hoping to get into (I am hoping for UCI, UCSD, UCD or UCSC), so I am both happy about the overall increase and a bit sad at the moment.

SAT Dec 7th score(M;CR;W+essay): 2000, (610;670;720+10 essay)
(If taken it before dec7th)
Prior Score(s) + date taken:1950 5/1
PSAT score: Didn’t take PSAT’s
What prep did you use(courses, self-prep): Self-study
What do you recommend: Studying alone while checking answers and realizing why you got a question wrong is probably the best strat imo. Use the blue book
Top College Choice: Brown (Accepted ED)

SAT Dec 7th score(M;CR;W+essay): 2130 (680+670+780+10)
Prior Score(s) 1960 720+ 590+650+8 taken 10/5
2080 750+570+740+10 taken 5/4 (SS=2080)
SUPER SCORE: 2200
PSAT score: I don’t remember…either 186 or 196
What prep did you use(courses, self-prep): My problem is CR (evidently!) I had a tutor up until the latest test, but did not find her helpful because since she was providing me with answers, I didn’t take the time to completely understand everything. I woke up early every day before school the week of the test this time and did two practice CR sections, went over each section, and really made myself find out why an answer was right/wrong because I have trouble with that!
What do you recommend: Focus on proving wrong answers wrong rather than right answers right.
Top College Choice: Brown (realistic first choices are University of Miami/ UMD)

SAT December 7th: 2260 (750 CR, 770 M, 740 W - 7 essay)

7th Grade: 1530 (560 CR, 550 M, 420 W - 4 essay)
(I think this is a good point to say that I cannot write within a 25 min time limit…)
Psat: 216 sophomore year and 225 junior year
I took a couple of full practice tests on the SAT website and took the PSAT twice, so I got a pretty good idea of what it was going to be like. I recommend those who had trouble on the essay like me to google search what they are actually looking for when grading it; which makes it more straightforward and less daunting (I looked it up after )
Top college choice: Columbia or UNC Chapel Hill

SAT Dec 7th score: 2340 (800 CR, 740 M, 800 W, 11 essay)
PSAT score: Sophomore: 217

What prep did you use: a small class for writing/cr, tons of practice tests mainly during the summer, didn’t do too much prep as the school year started. i did i think 7 out of the 10 blue book practice tests, which are the most helpful by far. loads of vocab flashcards. essay i got on pure luck.

What do you recommend: one tip that helped me out this time was that i looked up words that i didn’t know from books and textbooks. i lucked out and one word i looked up was actually on the test, so hey, won’t hurt!

May: 1900 (M: 620, CR: 670, W:610)
November: 2050 (M:720, CR:660, W:670)
December: 1830: (M:590, CR:600, W:640)
I’m going to order a score verification form I don’t care if my colleges will never get this SAT. I really think they messed it up because I knew after taking the test that I did really great on the Math and I find it hard to believe I dropped 220 points overall within a month. Especially since I didn’t study for either SAT I only studied for the one in May.

Oh, and to add I did better on the math in both my Sophomore and Junior PSAT which really doesn’t make sense since I especially didn’t study for those.

SAT Dec 7th score(M;CR;W+essay): 2060 (640CR, 620M, 800W)
Prior Score(s) + date taken: 2020 (640CR, 680M, 700W) 10/5 (760US, 730LIT) 11/2
Superscore: 2120 (640CR, 680M, 800W)
PSAT score: 166
What prep did you use(courses, self-prep):Course
What do you recommend: just study your mistakes and know every type of question they could ask. For vocab just read a lot and look up unusual words.
Top College Choice: Brown University

Forgot to add Top Choice NYU & I recommend either getting a tutor or studying by yourself with the blue book a couple hours a week. I took a course (Kaplan) not worth it whatsoever and was a waste of money. I never got a tutor however, I heard depending on what tutor you get it can work out great especially if the student won’t really motivate themselves to study (which is almost every student in America except the slight portion that are on College Confidential plus me). Practice makes perfect as well and if you don’t have the money to get a tutor just take a practice test, study what you get wrong, and repeat. I went up considerably from m junior PSAT to my May SAT with that method.

What prep did you use(courses, self-prep): Blue Book, SAT Prep Back Book by Mike Barrett and his online course (1560 to 1840 woo) and college board’s online course (mainly the practice quizzes)
What do you recommend: Mike Barrett’s stuff, Black Book if anything
Top College Choice: UNC chapel hill (seems unlikely), NC state

What prep did you use(courses, self-prep): no prep
What do you recommend: you should probably study
Top College Choice: UChicago!

Think I’ll retake once to see if I can get my writing score up a bit, but overall I’m pretty satisfied, especially considering this was only my first time and I didn’t do anything to prepare…

SAT Superscore: 2270 (800 M, 710 CR, 760 W)
SAT Dec 7th score(M;CR;W+essay): 2190 (720, 710, 760+11)
(If taken it before dec7th)
Prior Score(s) + date taken: October 2013: 2080 (660, 670, 710+9), October 2012: 1960 (800, 570, 590+7)
PSAT score: 2012: 197 2013: 216
What prep did you use(courses, self-prep): Just did LOTS of practice tests… as you can see it obviously worked… I went from a superscore of 1960 to 2270
What do you recommend: Read a lot, as it helps immensely with the CR section and comprehension… do practice tests whenever possible… don’t forget about the essay; as boring as it may be, it is very important to do practice prompts… I took my essay from a 7 to an 11!
Top College Choice: Dartmouth…. But i’m applying to most ivy’s… I still have a year until all that craziness starts

SAT Dec 7th score: CR 680, M 740, W 720
Overall Superscore: CR 690, M 740, W 800 (2230 combined)

What prep did you use: Took PSAT, Worked through CollegeBoard SAT Prep book
What do you recommend: Practice, practice, practice
Top College Choice: Don’t have one specifically, but my top schools are Stanford, UPenn, Princeton, and Darmouth
