Hi guys,

This year I placed 4th in New Jersey at the state DECA conference for Accounting (my intended major)

if I made 3rd I would have gone to nationals! :'(

I really don't have too many extra curriculars, in part because my school offers no after school transportation to my town (sending district), so its pretty much impossible to get involved.

I just was wondering how good of an EC this is

Thanks

Also, I’m a junior this year, so next year I definitely expect to make top 3 (considering I jumped 14 places from sophomore to junior year).

So if I go to the national competition, how will colleges know since that’s after I would apply?

And is there any way that my situation with school bussing can be made known to colleges? I really feel at a loss for extra curriculars, besides a part time job i’ve had for about half of my junior year.

Yes!!! I’m a huge part of DECA as well, and it is most CERTAINLY an extra curricular worth putting on an application. Colleges love to see that you’ve done very well compared to other students nationally, and state-wide. Are you on your school’s board at all for your chapter? And yeah, I heard accounting was really hard this year. One of my good friends, who took 3 accounting classes and is just, brilliant, didn’t make it to nationals either Salt Lake City was really nice, but Psh, its going to be nothing compared to Anaheim next year!!!

Unfortunately my school really hardly has a DECA program. I’m the only person in the club who’s serious about business, therefore the only one who ever makes it past regionals. In addition they cut the accounting program at my school so I had to take a financial accounting course at my local CC.

And I hope and pray that I can get top 3 next year so I can go to California! :O

Also, are you in FBLA? My school is starting an FBLA club next year and I really am not sure what it’s like or what to expect but I’ll definitely participate.
