DECA Internationals Thread

^Yeah! I would love a CC DECA get-together, that would be really cool.
I feel like the written would be a better choice because you spent more time on it and you can prepare much better. Does anyone know how hard the test/roleplays are compared to state/area?

Found out instead of flying to Orlando, we’ll be heading to Tampa Bay first, and then chartering a party bus to Orlando  Coolest advisor ever

How are you guys paying for ICDC? Any fundraising involved?

Last year, my case studies were pretty much on par with my expectations.

My first roleplay caught me off guard though (I was in the marketing cluster but the instructional area was financial analysis), but I redeemed myself in the second roleplay. My finalist roleplay was extremely technical and I wasn’t expecting three judges :(

Hopefully ICDC will be worth taking the late AP exams!

Seahawks, what state are you from?

Washington  We are a competitive state for DECA (SCDC had 3400 people so DECA is popular) and I made it out of the most competitive area- 2/78, then 4/70 at state.

Lol Seahawk, the awards ceremony at the Delaware SCDC are so bland. DECA’s not big here at all, we don’t even have a regionals. We all get into a dining hall, only using up half of its space and closing up the other half. Then there’s music in the background, typically stuff like Taylor Swift. When someone goes up to receive an award, either they get cheered for wildly or there are no cheers at all. Typically, the bigger schools go wild whenever their members win while when a member of a smaller school wins it’s really quiet.

That sucks… hopefully you’ll get to experience a better one. Ours was more like a rock concert like I said.

Eliane, did you choose yet? Just got the word today that someone in IBP dropped out, meaning I dual qualified- I chose the business plan over individual roleplay.

So although I wasn’t able to place, I had fun anyway! And this is my second year, BTW.

I’m going to ICDC as a state officer  :)

I’m also competing too. I’m SO EXCITED FOR HARRY POTTER WORLD!!! Who else plans to go??

that’s too bad common. Good luck next year!

Yeah, I think we only have the time to go to disney world or universal so it’ll be a tough choice. HP World sounds cool though…

going to orlando out of new york
did very well in our states most competitive category, 2/83 at states but 3/30 at regionals! (most competitive region) go figure.

Second year doing deca and was top 10 at states last year but not a place winner.
so excited, and none of my ap’s contradict.

its weird being the only one from my school to qualify, anyone have a similar experience they can share?

also, my chapter helped sell each departments ap review books and took 1 dollar from each book. Made us about $1000. also sold candy at about a $.50 profit for each bar, putting us around $1400 raised. I’m the only one going so everything except food is going to be covered =]

p.s. staying at the rosen plaza hotel

Congrats Yankee!
Haha not for me. Our school is one of the top in our state, we’re sending 17 this year! But interestingly enough only 4 of us are guys.

Any interesting experiences during your role plays/ anything at your SCDC?

State was really busy for me with 2 events, didn’t get to eat “lunch” until 5 after I finished my test, ate breakfast at 6:30.
I knew I nailed the written test so I was expecting to get on stage as a finalist, but I was shocked that I made nationals. My first role play was a disaster, movie theater was the last thing I would have expected for a role play about distribution channel management… it started out horribly, I didn’t even say my name, and for my 2nd and 3rd performance indicators I said almost the same thing, which was barely anything. Halfway through I felt like asking to start over and I knew I wasn’t going to nationals. The second role play went much better but I had too much to say and got cut off, so after the judge’s questions I made a stupid attempt to show my graph and explain my promotional plan. I actually ended up with an 88 on the 1st RP and 87 on the 2nd, plus 84/100 on the marketing cluster written test (1st in category).

Sports and Entertainment Marketing

Role Play 1: Make a promotions plan for a new music style video game, similar to guitar hero. Created by an already established company with wide consumer base, sequel to an original game. Discuss methods of promotions, technology in promotions, etc.

Did well on the promotions aspects. Said a large kickoff concert with partners Muscular Dystrophy association (DECAs partner), mcdonald’s happy meal toys etc.
Aced his questions though.

Role Play 2: Discuss how and why an established campus sports store could do market research.

Absolutely destroyed this one. Marketing research is my strongest point (AP Stat ftw). I blew the judge away and had already answered all the questions before he asked them! By far my best role play of all time.

82/100 on the test (top 10)
83/100 on RP 1 (top 10)
98/100 on RP 2 (top 10)

They never checked my id though, easily could have had a smart college friend sit in for the RPs for me haha.

Anyone have any clue of the difficulty of the tests/role plays at icdc?

So, who here’s going to grand rapids, MI on friday for states?

We had a similar role-play for the rock band video game. You’re lucky I dropped out of SEM  haha. My friend who got 1 place ahead of me is still doing it though. However WA and NY are both good states so you have a decent chance at finalist.

^wait, you guys haven’t competed yet? I thought the deadline to register for ICDC was this wednesday? (Maybe just for WA)

Hmm, not sure. But yeah, we’ll know who’s going to nationals on Sunday.

So, I’ll be taking an economics test on Saturday, but I have no idea what is going to be on it. It’s part of DECA but I can’t seem to find anything, has anyone taken a DECA Economics exam before, and, if so, what types of questions do they ask typically?

My school’s sending 26 people to ICDC! It’s gonna be a party. :D

But $200 is due tomorrow and I definitely haven’t fundraised that much yet… D:

29 from our school in new york, and the school covers the costs… oh yeah!
LEGGGOO NY DECA

the1situation, is it just a test-based event or part of a roleplay event? I don’t know but I imagine it’d be similar to AP Econ with more math than business related but with business terms.
Damn, we have to pay 500! But we get a little bit back from booster club and I got a $140 scholarship from the event sponsor. I feel like just having abt. 10 people gets the people closer but I expect us to split into 2 groups.

So the question is, Disney or Universal? :D

Disney one day, universal the next!

gotta go to magic kingdom and harry potter land!
