I am trying to find a p/np 1 unit class to fill out my schedule
What are the differences between the two?
Any personal experiences/suggestions?

decals are way cooler, but are generally in the evening.

DeCal : Welcome!

You won't know about the DeCals that are offered until it gets much closer to the beginning of the school year, but they are definitely a nice way to round out your schedule. They tend to be pretty easy (with exceptions, of course) and focus on topics more of interest to the average college-aged kid -- less about the academics, more about the semi-serious exploration of extracurricular topics.

For example, my boyfriend ran a DeCal on Storytelling and Characterization in Video Games this semester. Classes covered things like the Silent Hill series and Portal and playing Smash Bros. Brawl in class. The final project was simply to do a 5 hour project of your choosing -- people have done quiz games, art projects, game walkthroughs and so on.

If you will be a frosh, go for a seminar
If you will not, go for a DeCal

Has anyone taken a seminar that they've enjoyed?

what exactly is the difference between decals and freshmen seminars?

Mainly who teaches them. Seminars are run by faculty, DeCals by students.

I recommend Naval Science 24 as a seminar. Its on Guerrilla Warfare and Asymmetric Conflict. I don't know if it'll be offered again since the instructor, Captain Buckey got transferred to Italy last fall.

IB 24
Try the one with White

I actually was thinking of doing a seminar, but was wondering if I could get into one of the frosh seminars even tho I'll technically be a sophmore, since the frosh seminars look way more interesting than the soph seminars.

telebears won't let you
