I have a countdown until December 16th for the SCEA notification, but I've heard/read that the decisions could come out earlier? Can someone fill me in on this? The original email I got from Yale said we find out December 16th, in the evening, but people seem to think that's been changed.

Yeah I would love is someone could comment on this? Usually colleges like to release decisions on fridays to let the decisions sink in without having to be bothered by parents/students/counselors, so a tuesday seems like an interesting choice… anyone heard anything about it being on the 12th?

I haven’t heard anything from a Yale official. However, I’ve been lurking on the other SCEA/ED chats for ivies and I see people at Harvard firmly believe theirs is coming out on the 12th or 11th. If the ivies decide to release decisions on the same day then we’ll most likely get it on the 12th. But plan for the 16th because that’s what the original confirmation email from Yale says. X_X

Last year the Yale SCEA applicants found out on Monday the 16th; Harvard SCEA applicants, on Friday the 13th. So I’m guessing Yale decisions will be released on Monday the 15th or Tuesday the 16th. I’m not sure there’s an agreement that Ivies have to release early decisions on the same day.

Okay. Whatever they told you in the e-mail is the date and time it is going to come out. Not a day or second earlier and no, they are not changing their minds. Last year, Harvard came out on Friday, December 13. Yale came out on Monday, December 16 at 5:00. Not a second earlier. The link does not work until the specified time. I picked up my D from practice, she got in the car, we went around the corner from school, I turned on the hotspot on my phone and she clicked the link. UPENN did the same evening as Yale.

Harvard, by the way, notifies via e-mail.

I understand how all of you feel. I went through it with my D last year. Good luck.

The Ivies released their regular decision on the same day at the same time this year for the class of 2018, and it was on March 27. SCEA may be totally different

SCEA is totally different. Since my D got in early, I have no idea when the actual RD date was last year. My thinking it was April 15 may be a relic from the past - I did go to college in 1978.

@Tperry1982 remembers it the same way that I do. On the appointed day, about 4pm CST, I got a call from my son. He said “I think I got into YALE!” He heard the singing bulldog. I got a little teary. When he arrived home from high school, I launched some fireworks leftover from the fourth of July. They exploded over the house as he got out of the car, and was walking to the house. This was almost a year ago, and I think it’s one of the most wonderful memories of my life. Good luck to each and every SCEA hopeful. You made the right choice. I hope that you get your wish.

@ElMimino, my son making it down the stairs that day without seeming to touch a single step will be a memory forever.

I wish all you applicants luck, but do not forget that you will be accepted, if not at Yale, then at wonderful schools where you will get a great education and have great memories.

@Elmimino- wow - I love that. And the other best part was when they realized they could open the link over and over and hear the bulldog sing. I must admit I had her password and opened it a few times myself while at work.

@Tperry1982 My son’s computer is linked to a cheap, but powerful stereo in the basement. I’d hear him open the link and hear the bulldog. Then I’d yell down the stairs… “Play it again!” and he’d let it rip. We didn’t have to dust the ceiling fans that month. My feet still don’t touch the ground.
I am happy for him not because he’s admitted to ‘Yale’, he was admitted to several similarly wonderful schools, but because Yale is his dream. He fell in love with the residential college system, the culture, the student body. He loves Yale, because it is so very…Yale.
Everything that Yale wants to promote aligns perfectly with everything my son wants to do. It’s as much as I could hope for.

Sorry @armorvitae, some of us have freshman at Yale now, and we’re just recounting how elated we felt at their acceptances. Sorry for the confusion. We didn’t intend any insensitivity.

Apologies to the applicants. I think we parents highjacked the post. We were talking about last year. Best of luck to all of you and you all will have a similar story to tell this time next year. If not at Yale, then somewhere else.
