December 11 SSAT

I got my scores by regular mail today: 95% overall.

Invent, just out of curiosity, what state do you live in ?

I’m on the east coast, not saying what state now until march 10.

Mid Atlantic ? Or North East ? I’m just wondering to see in relevance to where I live.

If you are on the east coast, you’ll probably get it by tomorrow as I got it today. It may be delayed by a day or so due to holiday mail volume.

So, what if they are not well-balanced? What is the conclusion that is drawn from having a 99 in, say, Math, and a 30 in RC, particularly when writing samples and teachers’ recommendations speak to competencies?

Well, most boarding schools want pretty well rounded kids. That goes for academics and extra curriculars. Some schools who are known to be good at a particular field might not care as much. For example, Exeter is extremely well known for Math but it is still one of the best schools for humanities. If you had a score of around 70 in CR but a 99 in Math and Verbal then that wouldn’t kill your score. Having a 30 though, that will kill your score. Try and get at least above 70 in every section and try to get a 90 in at least one section, so say 70CR 80 Verbal and 90 Math. These scores are pretty good and put you in the running.

my overall score was 88.
I did terrible, really terrible, on verbal.
but I did really good on Math and Reading.
Would my verbal score seriously effect me?

Could you please say what percentiles you got in each section. As a general rule though 88% is a very good score.

Thankyou for the reply!
My reading score: 728-91%
verbal score: 689-59%
math score: 791-96%
overall: 88%

@notnownao Just curious, how did you think you would do on the test in general, before you got your scores?

@angela2010peace
I knew I did terrible on Vocabulary so I wasn’t surprised with the score.
For Reading, I thought I did as bad as Vocab because it was pretty hard for me and i skipped one question which brought my confidence down.
And as for math, I thought I made 2 mistakes but I actually made 3.
Overall, I thought I was going to get something like 2100 ~2150 but I actually got 2205.
So yeah. I was really surprised.

Awesome! But I’m not sure if I will do so well because I skipped at around 4-5 questions for reading and I wasn’t sure about some of my other answers… Gahhh. As for verbal, overall, I think I won’t be doing so well.

Ugh when are the scores coming out…!!!

My child’s scores were:

Verbal 92%
Math 88%
Readng 98%

Overall 96%

This was the first SSAT that my child took and I thought the results were very good until I saw some of the previous posts. Are people really worried with overall scores that are not 99%? I am really shocked by this.

Anyway, my child is applying to Deerfield, Hotchkiss, and Lawrenceville, has a GPA of 3.8, tons of ECs and is a legacy at one of these schools. Until reading these posts, thought the chances of admittance were pretty high.

Your child’s scores are fine. 99% is not a necessity and is not a garantee of admission either. Very few get 99%. On this thread, only two posters reported they got 99% overall in the December test.

96 overall is fantastic, don’t worry about it.

why haven’t i gotten my scores back yet… ahh the wait is excruciating

Like DAndrew and divealive have stated, don’t worry about the scores. If your child is not admitted, it won’t be because of a 96 on the ssat! It sounds like you’ve got a strong candidate, but I do have sympathy. It’s hard not to worry. We don’t want to see our children disappointed.

thanks everyone, I appreciate the feedback.

While I know that nothing is certain, I knew that my child had a good academic record and ECs and had done well in the interviews. The SSAT concerned me though, as standardized tests are not her strong suit. When we received the results and she had done so well, we were very happy. Then I log onto CC and see folks worried about pretty high scores and considering retaking the test, an I wondered if I had misread the scores!

I got 86 percentile on my december 11 ssat’s i thought the verbal and math were pretty easy and the reading comp was pretty hard

i mean 83 percentile
