is the chem subject test hard?
im planning on taking it later this year possibly after APs
i think it will be a lot harder for me than the Math IIC =/

any recommendations for books to study from?

once i get my score (hopefully 800) ill recommend some to u :)

I think PR prepped me well for it..

camon guys we gotta have more q's lol!! and what is UP with CB curve. -3 for 800??

I managed to get through Barron's in a week, and I could answer a lot of the questions today except the ones on organic chemistry I didn't read that chapter. But... as aa6590 said, we'll see once the scores come back if our preparation worked.

^haha, I only started preparing on Tuesday, skipped prep on Wed (some things came up) and prepped all day thursday and friday. went through whole PR book

i had PR, kaplan, and barron's. kaplan is mediocre, barron's is just WAYYY too much, and PR was good, but missing a few things. taking a buncha practice tests at borders filled in the gap.

Yea I just found this out online at a trustable source. Comes from a person with a PHD in Chemistry at CIT. So its probably correct...

A graduated cylinder is a piece of laboratory glassware used to accurately measure out volumes of chemicals for use in reactions. They are generally more accurate and precise for this purpose than beakers or erlenmeyer flasks, although not as precise as a volumetric flask or volumetric pipet.

come on every1. les keep going on the Qs while our hopes of 800 slip away...

CIT wat did u put for those 3?

I dunno, the pipette had smaller intervals on it (judging via the picture) so it would be more accurate... that question sucked

Ti - metallic bonds.

That was one of the first questions.

yea. GOLD (Au) WAS THE ANSWER TO NUmber 2 right? it asked which is a naturally occuring elemental solid.

I put down gold for that one, too.

Yea, Au is gold.. when was the last time you saw liquid gold at room temperature?

Wasn't iron one of the choices in that question too, though? I debated between putting down that and gold... >.<

the answer is Au tho because it is not reactive whereas Fe reacts very easily and forms many compounds. tis on wikipedia

Allright, thank you. I can't believe how much I failed at the descriptive stuff in the test... thank God I was able to do many of the quantitative problems.

I can't believe how little Acid-Base chemistry was on this test. I never learned it in school so I had to self-teach myself from the PR book.. I did to some extent, and it was apparently enough for the test.. the SAT just scrapes the surface of subjects!

I'm worried about the true-false questions. Otherwise, I think I did ok on the test.
