December 2007 - Spanish

When I registered I didn't know the test was supposed to be so easy .. I could not change the test later because I didn't have time to prepare for another subject.

However I'm completely sure that english tests for foreigners are much more difficult than the spanish SAT II test. It's no exaggeration to say that that test can be aced by a 10 year old, it really is just basic stuff. About reading comprehension, I can see why you thought the passages were especially hard. The truth is they had tough vocabulary, compared to the other sections, however, the questions were easy and did not depend on the tough vocabulary words.

And of course Spanish is my native tongue... but that test was really, really easy. It just seems to me I'm supposed to know more English than you are supposed to know Spanish, because English is a requisite, completely mandatory. However, Spanish is just, let's say, something to adorn your resume. Thus English tests are harder than Spanish tests.

OK! I believe you!

Even with the vocabulary there were many answers that could be deduced. But it was pretty shocking to run into those reading passages. I wasn't prepared for them. In a few weeks I will let you know how good my powers of deduction are.

Spanish may be an adornment for the resume for some, but I truly love the language. It will be ironic if it kills me.

i agree with you, native speakers shouldnt take it, and im not submitting it to any colleges. the only reason i took it was b/c i didnt have time to prepare for another subject and id already paid for it. but like daniel said, i didnt expect it to be so easy. nice to hear you actually love the language, and (although i may be quite biased here) i have to say it is a truly beautiful language, one that many of the world's greatest writers call their own

Yes, native speakers should not take their native language tests... I didn't intend to take it, I messed up. Well I hope you did OK on the test jocan, I'm sure admission officers will consider it's much harder for an english speaking person to take a spanish test than for a spanish speaking person.

Irepr08... which authors do you like? My favorite is Gabriel GArc

he's my favorite too :), along with isabel allende and a few others... im actually writing a monograph about one hundred years of solitude and the house of the spirits for spanish class.

I just read 100 years of solitude, oh my gosh I am OBSESSED.

i'm reading 100 yrs of solitude now (though an english translation (and a bad one)) but it's kinda awesome and amazing haha i love it

One Hundred Years of Solitude is my favorite book. Although I feel I should read more Latin American authors, I've mostly read Russian and French novels or plays. My reading on Latin American writers, except Gabriel Garc

i thought the test was fairly easy, but i didn't finish it...
