DECEMBER 2008 SAT Subject Test: Physics

<p>How do you think it went? I found it sort of annoying. Discuss.</p>

<p>harder than practice test, i thought... i haven't learned some of the material tested..</p>

<p>Harder then October. I omitted many.
:((</p>

<p>were currents induced in all three of the wires rotated in mag field?
what was the electric force of a charge with 2x10^-6 columbs between 2 parallel plates with 100v? 2^10-4?
what was the force exerted by the wind for the airballoon probelm? 100?
for the 2 bodies colliding problem, was the speed of B 3? 45 J for KE and 1.5 m/s for the 2 moving together?
i suck at e&m,...</p>

<p>I can't believe I studied for it! Like, out of the 500 things the prep books tell you to memorize, there's about a 1 in 1000 chance each will show up, lol. So in retrospect it totally wasn't worth it.</p>

<p>That's not to say that I think I did super well -- naw, my grip on concepts isn't great. But aghhh, I wish I'd known it was so broad; I wouldn't have gotten so caught up on the details.</p>

<p>Reichin, aghhh I dunno if we can talk about this so I won't be specific in my reply, lol:
To your first question, I said that.
To your second... hmm... I don't remember that one.
To your third, that was one of the two or three that I skipped. WUT WAS THAT.
To your collision questions, I said all of those.</p>

<p>A lot easier than practice test but I was sorta freaking out in the beginning. I just hope I did not make that many stupid mistakes.</p>

<p>The numerous formulas on sparknotes.com were not required for the test. I never took a practice test, so I have nothing to compare it to, but many questions required only basic logic even if one didn't know the formulas. However, there was a lot I didn't know on magnetic fields and such.</p>

<p>^ That's exactly how I feel. </p>

<p>Grr, I wish I'd gotten more comfortable with theory instead of cramming and trying to learn exact formulas.</p>

<p>I put 1 and 2 only. This is how I approached Picture 3:
rotate around the center => no change in area => no change in magnetic flux => no current. </p>

<p>It was 2x10^-3, I believe.<br>
E=V/d = 100V/0.1 m = 1000 N/C
F=Eq = 1000 x 2^10-6 = 2x10^-3 </p>

<p>I put 500 for the balloon question. I just used the Pythagorean theorem. </p>

<p>I put the same answers for the questions with the two carts colliding.</p>

<p>ah, i think you are right little bell... T-T
and • room 5 degrees -> lose least heat? 17 degrees, A = 9, thickness = .2 ?</p>

<p>I tried to use the Pythagorean theoremmm! Ahhh now I see where I went wrong... WOW. Good thing I wasn't taking Math IIC.</p>

<p>Ughhh the losing heat one was dumb. I put one that didn't really make sense, now that I think of it. I guess we just wanted the biggest volume or whatever... I wasn't thinking straight.</p>

<p>I skipped that one. I got lazy at the end so i didn't feel like reading the chart. lol....
I know for sure I missed the stupid pulley question. Somehow I was totally convinced that the tension would be zero. Grrr...</p>

<p>Me too... it didn't seem right but I couldn't get it to come out to anything else, lol.</p>

<p>I like how I've gotten >half of the things we've discussed in here wrong.</p>

<p>• Tension force largest at top of swing of pendulum
• Monochromatic light: half wavelength -> double energy
• Half-life- 40 min.
• what was the force exerted by the wind for the air balloon problem? 500
• were currents induced in all three of the wires rotated in mag field? No, in I & II
• what was the electric force of a charge with 2x10^-6 columbs between 2 parallel plates with 100v? 2^10-3
• Change color of light (frequency) -> change max KE </p>

<p>• Moon—can jump 6 times higher
• Charge at surface of conductor – C
• for the 2 bodies colliding problem, was the speed of B 3? 45 J for KE and 1.5 m/s for the 2 moving together?
• Graphs: waves with dif frequencies/out of phase
• Evidence of expanding universe
• KE graph (when is force constant, never) (after interval A v = 0)
• Vt graph ( max displacement, fastest at t1)
• Object sliding up and down incline plane (linear graph of acceleration, displacement, velocity)<br>
• Vectors 28 NE
• Circuit to get 6 ohms
• Dissipate how much energy with R halved—h/2
• Slit diffractions cuz of interference
• Satellite doesn’t fall cuz of tangential velocity & gravity
• Incline plane—2 problems (set vertical & horizontal forces equal, acceleration 1/2mg)
• Refraction: wave E is wrong
• Relativistic velocity – c
• Bar, both end attracted to north pole -> can be magnetized
• insulator & conductor = glass & aluminum
• room 5 degrees -> least heat? 17 degrees, A = 9, thickness = .2
• which charge experiences force to West = D
• heat of fusion
• specific heat
• 2 questions on efficiency of engine
• 3600 C charged
• Momentum conserved in all 3 situations
• Earth travels faster around Sun + something else
• Move 1 charge 2 cm to right for middle charge to experience no force
• Tighten string -> doesn’t change fundamental wavelength
• 6 = ratio of diameters between image & object
• System with objects at dif temperature -> entropy increases
• Rutherford – some alpha particles deflected 180 degrees
• Neutrons can approach nucleus cuz it has no charge
• Differences between isotopes = number of nuclides
• Place of image = right behind mirror
• Last question- charge goes right and curves downward
• Pulley: Tension = 2W
• Centripetal force = 5 N
• Set KE of block equal to PE of spring
• Galvanometer = when coil 2 is stationary and has no current
• Standing wave: which can’t be a photo? Node in middle
• Dif in diffraction of sound waves = wavelength</p>

<p>this is about 50 questions... help me think of the rest!</p>

<p>This is depressing... I must've gotten so many wrong. </p>

<p>Are you sure about the moon one?</p>

<p>reichin0717, I see a few errors in there :P</p>

<p>I mean, I think he's just throwing out what HE put for discussion. </p>

<p>But aggghhh there are so many for which I put different things from him! D: Like, an ominous number.</p>

<p>I still feel okay about it, though. All I want is 700+, and if 12-15 raw points off is 800, it sounds like there's a nice padding.</p>

<p>Are you sure about the pulley tension?</p>

<p>*edited 10 char</p>

<p>Oooh I put that!</p>

<p>How about the moon one?</p>
