DECEMBER 2008 SAT Subject Test: World History

does anyone remmeber about the
Manila map?

what did manila give spain for their galleons?
and another question related was to whom did spain trade whatever they gotfrom Manila to?

Does anyone remember the answer about what culture did the most to prevent floods and droughts? Was it the Aztecs or no?

^ Yeah, the Mongols stifled technological growth in Russia.
^^ For the Asoka one- He favored Buddhism but I think he also tried to spread it around Asia too using his power.
^^^ Well I guess we're all agreeing on the Mother Goddess one
^^^^ For Manilla map, I skipped it. Wikipedia says something about silver, and how they also obtained porcelaines & spices from the Southeast. The article's kinda confusing though, so not I'm not positive.

Yay for carrots!

I put that they got the silver from Acapulco to trade for spices from the Dutch. I thought that was right just because I didn't see why they would highlight the Dutch holdings otherwise?

I didn't even answer the question about the floods and droughts. ;(

new world silver to manila, then further to china for silks and spices

Entrance to the shrine of Inanna, Sumerian Mother-Goddess the very well existing mother goddess!

what was the flood thing? i guessed Inca because of their social systems dunno though

Can people start posting more questions and answers? I need to know how I did on the test. Please!!!

Does anyone remember their answer to the indian political cartoon? the one about the revolutionaries in prison. path to liberty question

i put "to strengthen the national spirit"

For the government control one- was Maya one of the answer choices?
I'm looking through my Kaplan book and agriculture formed the basis of Mayan life, so I suppose floods and droughts would matter to them.

On the other hand, Aztecs created the 'chinampas'- which were floating plots of land full of fertile soil. In addition, they had a lot of canals in their capital city. So, obviously they cared about water control too.

For the indian political cartoon, I put to discourage more people from participating. It seemed like the bridge led to the inside of the cage.

why would the Indians want to discourage participating in a peacefull independance movement that brings THEM liberty? also there were gods and sign on there for national identity!

alleviating problems b/c of the floods and natural disasters i put incas

i remember reading something about how they had socialist tendencies

i used barrons

it says

"the Incas took care of the poor and aged, distributed grain in periods of shortage, and assisted in natural disasters"

the indian question i put something along the lines of...

using religious symbols??

it definitely wasnt to discourage participating cause inside the jail was mohandas gandhi.
he was for non-violence but it doesnt mean non-participation

For the Indian cartoon question, I put whatever answer had both Ghandi and Nehru in it. He was chilling in the cage there with Ghandi. I think that was the answer about discouraging people from participating?

With the reinstatement of scorechoice is there really any point to cancelling SAT's?

Score Choice - New SAT Score-Reporting Policy

And if it's possible...It'd be helpful if all of us could pool in for a compilation of the questions on the SAT WH :]?
I remember the first question was...
1. Civilization first existed...
Answer : Sumerian?
4. Which book talked about immortality
Answer: Epic of Gilgamesh
5. Theravada vs. Mahayana

And the one with the passage..."Franks rejoiced"?
Answer : ...?

what was the map that
included...

germany
austria
hungary
and northern italy and i think switzerland??

was it

carolingian empire...
or autro-hungarian empire
or...
holy roman empire

yea i like the idea of everyone pooling in for the questions. People keep posting questions

"the Incas took care of the poor and aged, distributed grain in periods of shortage, and assisted in natural disasters"

OMG i thought of the same thing there;) yeah, I also used barrons! i just memorized "Incas=social=reciprocal system" and I guess I know now where I got my feeling from. lets hope that its right^^

the map was the holy-roman empire!!! I live in the present day Austria (yes its tiny) so i kinda smiled when I saw that answer choice:)

ANYONE get the Enlightment effect on Latin America?

Hey guys, what do you think a feasible score (assuming an average to generous curve) would be for 10 omits and 5-7 wrong? Like a 760-780?

15-20 blank is around a 790-800 depending on the curve, at least according to the official practice tests.
