December 2009 SAT Subject Test: French

To be fully in effect after the CB silence period! ^^

I took it along with Lit and Math Level IIC, haha. I actually hadn’t signed up for it at first, but then after my other two tests I found that I still had energy, and since I’m fluent in French I thought to myself, “Well, why not?” I ended up writing the test, and found it ridiculously easy (it’s probably going to be the only confidence booster when my scores arrive lol!), but then again that’s just me.

If any of you have specific questions, I’ll most likely be able to answer them for you. (answered all; omitted none)

I was wondering about the question with a blank beside the pas?
Sorry I don’t remember the question clearly. The choices were jamais, d

for the reading comp what did the passage say about Blanche’s mother? I put she didn’t want to leave her family?

was it saisir a admiration or saisir d’admiration?

for the the first reading comp question about the ad to the museum, how did they attract visitors and what services did they provide?

I put d

@ 1verse: The answer was ‘toujours’.

@ vanillasky123: Blanche’s mother was proud of the place she was born in… that’s why there was the word “fierte” when she was saying how she was not born in the countryside.

“Saisir d’admiration” was correct.

They attracted visitors by highlighted points of interest and by providing informational services.

thanks fledgling.
I didn’t understand the passage about the Gestapo at all. Could you summarize what it was about?

@ 1verse: From what I could tell, that story was most likely about WWII and the persecution of Jews, and the narrator was most likely a Jew trying to escape unnoticed. So he basically made his way across a kitchen, but none of the women cooking saw him because they were too busy. He walked across the courtyard before stepping out into a small street. He thought whether he could go to a nearby doctor’s house to seek refuge, but then he saw that he couldn’t move much because the streets were filled with people and horse carriages. All of a sudden, he saw this carriage with this adolescent boy he recognized sitting at the back, sandwiched in between two police officers. The boy had been arrested.

thanks fledgling! sigh 5 omits, -3 there goes my 700 :frowning: do you remember the second to last question about the Concorde?

I thought the reading comp was pretty difficult :-/ and one of the grammar fill ins was weird… the one with the mom and angel/kid i think? @fledging do you remember the answers to those?

Second to last question… the one predicting the future based on what the author thought about the Concorde? I put that he was predicting space exploration… if that’s not the question you’re referring to, please tell me.

Yes, I remember a rather dubious question about the mother/kid passage, and I found it weird even though I’m completely fluent, so you shouldn’t feel bad. Was it the first one, “l’an passe _______” etc.? I was debating between two choices on that one, but eventually I went with “semblait”.

I think that was the last question… there was one before that… one of the answer choices was longer than the others “__d’_” sorry I have a really poor memory…

I chose semblait too! yea I had trouble the most trouble with that mother/kid passage. do you remember any more questions from that besides the vocab question and the qui/que one?

I’m so glad that I’m not the only one who was like ? at that fill in
If most people miss a question does collgeboard take the question out? or does it stay?

I think the decision one was "qu’ ".

And I remember putting "d’ " for one of them.

The Concorde one still isn’t ringing any bells… =|

is it just me or was the french test really really hard? (specifically the vocab)
I cant belive that i found even the fill-in-the-blanks difficult. reading comprehension by itself is already hard.
Does collegeboard curb subject tests?

well I’m talking about the only question in concorde that had d’ so that’s probably it. you mean for the qui/que question it was q’?

“le mercredi”?
what about the last grammar question with “le, les, des, --”

yea I thought the test was really really hard and i studied from barron’s too… vocab was ok I think. for me it was that one grammar passage and the reading comp…

yep they do!

“le mercredi” is right.

The last grammar question was “les”.

The test in the blue book was a bit easier, I’d say. But today’s wasn’t all that bad, really.

So, what did y’all think of the French SAT II? Personally, I thought it was uber hard :[

yes, the passages!

I thought that the grammar sections were pretty easy. Some of the passages threw me off though
