According to confucian principles and an overlap of christianity, there were common morals that stated treat others the way you want to be treated…in confucian terms= emperor and people both must respect each other. But the detailing of the question could throw off the answer if im missing something</p>

<p>Actually, the other choice was some thing along the lines of “rulers should be polite when ordering their subjects”…which is what I put, since the passage was talking about how benevolent rulers are more likely to be respected by the people (or something). And rulers’ politeness was stressed by Confucianism. I think…</p>
