December 2010 ACT Science Discussion

how do you guys remember all of these stuff? OMG. i just try to forget it all. haha.

consolidated RIGHT ANSWER list anyone?

^Pretty much what ever I listed in the 2nd page. I’ll repost it.

For the rock question where people are having issues:

The correct answer was metamorphISM, not metamorphosis. lol
I thought this question was a little unfair though because there was no indication of what metamorphism was in the passage, so people unfamiliar with that process or who could not infer the answer from their knowledge of “metamorphic rocks” would not have known the answer.

Consolidated List:

-Metamorphism for the rock one
-Which things did not start at PT P for 35 sec? 3, 4 and 5
-What was the speed closest to? 4.0 m/s
-Pupa changed into adults
-Atoms of X was Iodine (I)
-Carboxylic acid with flourine atom would be even more acidic since the general trend was that the more electronegative the atoms are, the more acidic the molecule is

  • 22% for the alternative hz one
  • Gorrid eggs (or something like that?) were the ones who were females with unhatched eggs
-They kept the egg in the center (0.9 m)
-Student 2 ) was the one who didn’t think methane was produced from beneath surface
-Earthquake results in increase of methane release
-The graph for # 1 was the exponential + linear one
  • They would move toward each other because opposite charges attract
  • All of the 3 balls were given the same initial charge
  • Blue absorbed more orange and yellow absorbed more violet
-The green was a mix of blue and yellow
-One of the things I think was one color didn’t absorb any light at 4 min
-He didn’t want to get the same frog again so he tagged them because doing so would skew the distribution toward that of that frog’s
-The hypothesis was supported because the max was at the mean and not the alternative
    -Potential energy of pole increased
-Bike did not move since slope was 0
-Student 1’s argument was hurt from the question
-It was CH4 in the anaerobic organisms one (similar to that of mars)
-1991 for next date of high deforestation
    -1980 for one of them
    -Light defoliation was majority
    -BrCH2CH2COOH
    -100 liters or whatever in 10 billion litters since there was 10 parts per a billion. 10 * 10 = 100
-riders 1 and 2 fit the description

wait we have 27 questions? Not 32 as Wongtongtong said before.

^ I’m not sure if I put all of them down. I just put down the ones I got after skimming the pages.

■■■■ i don’t know what parts meant -_-

riders 1 and 2.
i think it was .9 for eggs one (center)
student 2 was the liquid one

Yeah Georgia Tech! I started my own business building and selling computers and that seemed to impress them (I’m gonna be a computer science major). I’m also an URM.

Although it seems incredibly strange that you didn’t get a scholarship with a 34, considering that 75% of applicants have a 31 or less. Are you applying this year? Because they will give out scholarships in April I believe, and you have to apply to some of them so they’ll consider you.

^LOLOLOLOL I think they were referring to Georgetown University.

No…I was referring to GTech.

And am I applying? Yes. But I’m not sure about the 34 because since they superscore, it could turn into a 35.

^oh. What the hell? U think that GTech might be a low match with your stats? It’s def a safety for you.

^I’m out of state, though. You think it’s a safety? :)

was one of the answers male frog advertising calls? The answer choices were like male advertising or female frog advertising or something like this…

yyyuupp to both posters above me

@yalefanboy

Just because its a low match doesn’t mean its a bad institution to attend (don’t understand what the LOLOLOL was for…).

@WonTongTong

Yeah it actually is a 35 because they do superscore everything. They actually cross superscore, using both the ACT subscores and the SAT subscores, but I don’t know how that works.

But with a 35 you’ll definitely have some money coming your way. You do have to apply to be considered for scholarships. Check the website. The deadline to apply is March 1 but yeah I would apply way beforehand.

To everyone else sorry for hi-jacking the thread. As you were.

No, the answer to that question was females with unfertilized eggs not males with advertising calls…

Ahhh, it was definitely metamorphism:

That was exactly what the passage described. There’s always at least one question on the science that requires prior knowledge, and I always find a way to miss it. Ah well, I don’t think I made too many other mistakes.

ACT: That’s what I said?

Ryan, yeah that’s what was explained before

Hurray, thanks a bunch for posting all of these guys! I was extremely nervous after getting out of the test, but it turns out that I’ve gotten all of the same answers as posted! Hopefully that’s a 36 coming my way! I assume that these were the more challenging questions and that I need not worry about the ones not yet mentioned. =)
