December 2010 Sat CR (Journalists)

the one where scientist and data, the one where people on this forum are popularly supporting manifest,

why not the answer be VAGUE

why did everyone put conspicuous? that answer seems too…simple. I thought the Seva column was idiosyncratic which is unique, “an individualizing characteristic or quality” since it used up half the third page, which means it had a unique quality for it to have filled up half a page. anyone else put idiosyncratic for that Seva passage?

Okay, I’m just going to list what I personally got:

Architecture Passage:

 1. Prince Charles and the author were similar in that they both were displeased with the people undermining old style architecture (something like that)
 2. A man mentioned right after Prince Charles who designs a building including both historical and new styles of architecture (I don’t remember the answer choices)
 3. Darn, I can’t seem to remember any questions from this passage at the moment.
 4. The author would be okay with building a plant in a rapidly developing industrial area

Journalism Passage:

 1. The first passage was different from the 2nd because it was more optimistic
 2. Something with the answer commonplace (about the growing number of citizens involved in journalism I believe)–> this is the second to last question
 3. Both authors were justifying the reasons for reform (this was the last question)
 4. Author 2 was using nonchalance to address citizen journalism or something along that
 5. Author 1 looks toward the future with eager hope

Seva Passage

 1. the accusing stare of the divorce papers revealed her guilt and uneasiness
 2. the tea leaves description revealed a physical past
 3. Editor was skeptical to satisfied
 4. cold refers to impersonal (the concrete, streets)
 5. She would most likely tell the person that a lot of friends still keep in contact in Manhattan (the advice)
 6. Lonely telephoning man question…the “wise men” were those who had been accustomed to living in Manhattan
 7. the cleaning of the sari, and blah blah question was an amusing response to strange problems (i think)
 8.

Astronomy/Human Ignorance Passage:

 1. fluctuating
 2. ignorance is not all that bad…darn don’t remember very well
 3. the term that the greatest gift is ignorance is outmoded or something…the other answer choice was conventional but that was not it
 4. …

I had the boxing passage but I guess that one was experimental…darn that passage was one of the easiest ones too. oh well

I’ll eventually be able to recall more later

^what was the question from the Astronomy/Human Ignorance passage that said in line 6 and line 38 the word “…” most nearly means?

I remember … was a simple one syllable word.
Anyone remember the word and the answer?

thestrokesrave,
For the journalism passage, 3. Both authors were justifying the reasons for reform (this was the last question)
I put something like potential impact, but i think i am wrong.

Jounalism passage.
5. Author 1 looks toward the future with eager hope

What are other choices?
For the astronomy passage, is it intellectual adventureness or something else?

Avidstudent, is the word “thing”? And the answer is development.

@AvidStudent

The word was “thing”, which means development.

^^Thank you and ^Thank you.

I thought it was thing, just wasn’t a 100% sure and development sounds familiar.

I put camouflage for the sea-horse one as well because it says “tendril-like fins”, which implies “camouflage”.

@lovewangzi how were the two authors justifying the reasons for reform when the second author clearly didn’t appreciate the reform. Both were definitely focused on the potential impacts.

ya i remember putting the both passages talk about the potential impact

and whatever that camoflouge and sea horse one is , I’m 100% sure it was the experimental section cuz I had a writing experimental and didn’t have that section at all

I’m pretty sure answer to the last journalism question was not about reform.

oh and the for the journalism passage, the answer to the last question was like modernism lost its identity and got debased or something along that line

at 31419265. i believe the answer was the both passages talked about the potential impacts of the new age media

I think you mean architecture. Also, I don’t quite see how modernism’s being debased makes it a victim of its own popularity. The author stated that modernism is being pushed onto a “defenseless” public who doesn’t like the buildings very much. I thought that “losing public favor” was the better choice.

That’s also what I remember.
