December 2010 SAT WRITING thread

i remember one question that said
Although (somehow) wrote and did (bunch of things), it is her musical compositions that gave her the most fame.
i put they are her musical compositions cause i thought it was a pronoun agreement error. i felt really stupid

what was the answer to the west african passage question?Question number 34; it said the leader were good with spiritual stuff.I did not put other times, was that the answer. Was the answer to number 13 B-last 10 min section??

I put something like “with this capacity,” or something. was that right? i didn’t put “other times” either.

how many n/es did you get on that test, HBassi? What were they?

I also put that as my answer, but could you explain your reasoning? It will help me justify my answer. What did you put for section 10 number 12? I put B.(Don’t really remember the question). what did you put for question number 13 I think I put B again. I had about 3-4 NE.

blue that one was tricky. i put no error tho. I feel like a lot of the times, towards the end of the section, college board will make a no error sentence, one that sounds like there is something wrong with it. i analyzed that sentence a lot and i do not see a problem that i can identify with “when snowing” but there may be i do not know.

what did you guys get for a temperature one? I had this in section 10, and it went something like "the temperature of earth is twice as high compared to today.
I put as as it is or something like that

oh and in my above post i meant from studying not from study… wow

Ya I put “as it is”

THANK YOU Herro1234, I felt much better after reading that.

Anyone remember any of the No Error questions for the identifying error questions? for the griots verison

For the griots one:

was an answer one where you had to have “for instance” in the choice?
also I got one where something was deleted to make it the correct tense; anyone remember that?

Sorry for being so vague but I can’t really remember.

Also what was the answer to the “No sooner than the plan touched the ground”

@Fl

Yep! where it was talking about their performances at weddings and such. So it had to be “The griots, for instance, would…” (something along the lines of that.)

Great memory.

Oh and the plane one, I think I put the error at B where it said something about the passengers standing up and cell phones were buzzing because I think it should have said No sooner…THAN. I may be wrong though.

@Zedwhy, I also thought that it should be “No sooner…THAN” and not “No sooner…WHEN”

@Crimean

Ah yes, that was the problem. Haha good memory on you too! It read “No sooner had the plane touched the ground when all the passengers stood up and cell phones were ringing.” Which the error was at “when all the passengers”. It should be “THAN all the passengers”.

Thank you for clearing that up Crimean.

For the Modern Heroes Essay

I explained two types of heroes and gave specific examples
-Politicians (UN Officials)
-Philanthropists (Bill Gates, Warren Buffett, the Ivy League)

For the last section,
there was a question where I was stuck between
a. than did that of cattle
or
b. than did cattle

can anyone clarify?

do you guys remember a question like this " to fix or _ rearrange"
did you put to after the or?

and for the one with the girl who collected the specimens, it was like she collected this species

there was also one with in some places there are significant increases in agriculture production.
what did you guys say for these?

2 omit 7 wrong and 10 essay. score?

Does anyone remember one where it said capable to but it should have been able to (it was talking about scientists not being able to explain themselves in ordinary terms).

It was “than did that of cattle” because it was comparing the revenue generated from oil as being higher than the revenue generated (that of) by cattle.

“Than did cattle” would be a faulty comparison, comparing the revenue to the cattle itself.

What did you guys put for the one about a “Union has criticized a company, saying that it participates in illicit activities, the manager’s response was that the attacks were unfair.”

I as stuck between no error and A. Was there a tense error in that one? I ended up going with A on that one, and had 2 other No Errors besides it
