December 2014 ACT Discussion Thread

Take advantage of

^ thats right

Ohhhhh, 8 days of worry till our ACT…I kbow I failed but maybe thats just meeeeeeeeeeeeeeee (sing in tune to “12 days of christmas” song)
:)

On the 1st day of worrying my anxiety gave to me - A dose of insanity. On the 2nd day of worrying my anxiety gave to me - 2 careless errors and a dose of insanity. On the 3rd day of worrying my anxiety gave to me - 3 curve guesses, 2 careless errors and a dose of insanity. On the 4th day of worrying my anxiety gave to me - 4 thoughts of failure, 3 curve guesses, 2 careless errors and a dose of insanity. On the 5th day of worrying my anxiety gave to me - 5 questions right!

I should stop now… xD

On the 6th day of worrying my anxiety gave to me-6 rounds of depression, 5 questions right, 4 thought of failure, 3 curve guesses, 2 careless errors and a dose of insanity.

On the 7th day of worrying my anxiety gave to me-7 sinking feelings, 6 rounds of depression, 5 questions right, 4 thought of failure, 3 curve guesses, 2 careless errors and a dose of insanity.

On the 8th day of worrying my anxiety gave to me-my ACT scores and the end of meeeeeeee

I have a quick question - does anyone know what different type of number on the test booklet means?
I got a 65B, does it mean I got different questions than the students taking the test in the US?
And is the international ACT curve different from the US ACT curve?

Thanks for answering. :)

@golfer I doubt there will be any time added to the science for 35 minutes to analyze graphs, tables and conflicting viewpoints is enough. For the past few tests there have been one section that is harder than the rest. I’ve been taking previously administered tests and they are considerably easier… ACT even admits the changes, but is not going to affect us much since they give generous curves for the tests…

Haha if they gave me 45 minutes on the science section, I would make a 36 every single time.

To make you feel a little better on the math, I missed 3 questions(carelessly) on the math in October and made a 35. Had I gotten a 36 on the math, I would’ve made a composite of 34 sigh. I always choke by 1 measly point…

there was one question i struggled to much on which was like x/8= y/12 or something and there was a switching of values from 12 to 8 or something. i think i guessed 4/3 after i tried a few cross multiplying things and plugging in of numbers. anybody remember that one?
Also, does anybody feel comfy with the answer to the garden one with the sprinkler? were you supposed to find the midpoint of the hypotenuse or something?

I found the midpoint of the hypotenuse but im not sure if thats what you’re supposed to do

whatd u guys get for the square on the graph

@cooldude1098 didn’t it ask for the midpoint between all 3 points? If so, I’m pretty sure you could’ve just done (x1 +x2 + x3/3, y1 + y2 + y3/3)

Yah idk, im not the best person to ask cause ill prob get a bad score for the math

Even if you draw a 9 12 right triangle you can see 4,-3 is not equidistant from the vertices

@CaptJack I figured out the question by thinking about what would happen if you had a rectangle instead.

Quick question: I know it says we are’t supposed to use any calculator programs, but how do they check if they ever do? Lol and who here has done so? (Not me but a friend commented on it)

Pertaining to the triangle question: <a href=“The CIRCUMCENTER of a triangle is the point in the plane equidistant from the three vertices of the triangle”>http://jwilson.coe.uga.edu/emat6680fa05/evans/assignment%204/assignment%204.htm</a>
There you have it, folks.

does any1 remember the answer to the lighthouse question on math?

45.7 ish
