@Wreckdecembersat
Well when i took the sat in oct i got 4 w and 1 blank on reading, but 2 of my wrong answers were sentence corrections :oo. That was painful for me because usually thats where im perfect. My best, and limited, advice is to go 19/19 on the sentence complete by memorizing word lists (i have so many words memorized idek how i bombed thay cr). Other than that, the way i took my score from 590 to 750 ish is by taking advantage of the ability to skip questions that you dont know, getting excited about the passage, and looking for reasons why other answer choices are wrong. The most important of these is getting excited about the passage, try to relate it to someone similar in your life and you wont lose focus at all. For example there was this section about space on the last sat i took, and i kept relating it to my dad, who loves anything interstellar. I would think what his opinion would be or relate the examples in the passage to other examples that related to his passion. Idk if that makes sense but my change in score was 590->730 reading hopefully i hit 780 this time !! (Freaking sentence completion)
@kentonpalmer
Thank you so much!! That’s great advice. I do realize I make more mistakes on passages I’m not interested in.
I hope you’ll hit 780! #Prayingforyou
For sentence completion, I’m memorizing words from Direct Hits, and all the hard words from OG. Are these good enough if I want to have a 19/19?
Thanks again!
Thank you! id be so happy if i hit that score, but probably happier if i got 800 in writing since i Started at 1730 with 500 in writing loool. Also, direct hits is good but theres a 50/50 chance you see some words you dont know with it. If somehow you can get the barrons reading book to rip out the word lists i highly recommend that!! The actual book is trash but the word lists practically guarantee you’ll know every word on the test, which i did last time. I bought many, many books with many word lists and the barrons/direct hits is by far the best combo imo. But still, you may be able to take the test and still know everything with direct hits !
Here’s a vote for the Insider’s Guide to SAT Critical Reading and Vocabulary. I’ve only missed 1 sentence completion between my two tests, and I thought that Direct Hits plus Insider’s Guide were sufficient. Someone earlier said that an 800 writing takes luck, and as an 800 scorer, I can confirm that lol. While you guys are waiting for Amazon orders of your vocab book to ship, Sparknotes 1000 words is another great source to start with.
@ambitionsquared
Thank you so much! I actually have that book but haven’t looked into it! I’ll check it out
@kentonpalmer
Great. Thank you for your suggestion! I started from 1850 with a 600 on the writing but now i’m stuck at 690 assuming i will write a 9 essay because I constantly miss 4 or 5 on those practice tests ugh the struggle!
if anyone would like to mark an essay I could use the help! & @Wreckdecembersat 690 is still 95 percentile, and its not a bad score

Im becoming prepared. Consistently missing only about 1 on the writing sections. I am practicing math with a goal of achieving a 750+. My CR goal lies at 720. These tentative goals are realistic. An 800 in writing would be ideal with a medium difficulty level MC set and a 9 essay (-0 MC).
My current score is laughable. 2010 (710W, 660 CR, 640 M (?)). The mathematics section was my weak point; I am now conquering it.
Going to use this test to raise my score a bit before RD season… it’s my last chance! Hopefully I will do well but if not I still have my ACT score as a backup
Good luck to everyone!
@Wreckdecembersat: I got a 19/19 on the sentence completions for the October test and I only used direct hits :).
Anyone who got an 11 or 12 on the essay have any tips. How did you vary your sentence structure? What kind of SAT words did you throw in? And how do you conclude well?
@JuicyMango
That’s awesome! I’m memorizing vocabs from DH like crazy recently @-)
Hi all, does anyone have any recommendations for me to improve my score. In October I got 1910 (cr 650, m 680, 580) and I am really not content with this score. I have been using Erica M.'s grammar guide and today i finished my last test in the blue book. Does anyone have any recommendations that helped you boost your score in a short period of time. I would like to break at least 2000. Thanks!
How would you prepare yourself for those weird SAT prompts?
dec 2014: is most of what people buy unnecessary?
@thetex make stuff up
What are you guys doing to prepare for Saturday? I don’t think I’ll have time to take another practice test before the actual test…
My score keeps varying drastically between 2080 and 2200+ every time I take a practice test and I don’t know what to do about it. Help!
In an ultimate and drastic twist of fate, i got brutally sick with some sort of strep throat. Going to the doctor today and loading up on drugs to hopefully be better by test day. No school this week i guess ! Total of 3 hours of sleep in last 2 days
@kentonpalmer oh my god I’m so sorry! Feel better!
@kentonpalmer Good luck! Get well soon!
Thanks ! But id have to be dead to not go break the 2200 barrier. Being sick leaves a ton of time to practice the writing section with a headache haha!
