***December 2016 ACT Discussion Thread***

@DryMango I have never seen a question on the ACT asking about finding the remainder, but there are several ways to do it and the easiest one is long division.

I’m totally freaking out about the reading section. My practice scores won’t stop fluctuating and I usually finish in 36 (rather than 35) minutes. Any last minute tips on how to tackle this section?! What is everyone’s reading strategy?

@“Elina M” I just read the first and last paragraphs and then the first and last sentence of each other paragraph. Focus on one question at a time and if you don’t know, move on. It’s better to get more done and guess on some than just finish some.

@JPGator98 How long does it take you to read the parts you mentioned and how long does it take to answer the questions? I don’t seem to find a way to balance the time I spend reading and the time I spend answering the questions!

@“Elina M” total about exactly 35 minutes. It takes less time to read and more time to answer the questions and locate them.

@JPGator98 Thank you very much, I’ll definitely try this method.

@AliMaged lol…Do residuals just mean long division? I find it strange that my calc teacher didn’t even know what they are, and said they are something from Pre-Calc, if it is just long division. I remember the practice problem involved binary variables and a coordinate plane. Is that what you’re describing?

@DryMango I thought you said remainder, I have never heard about residuals either :-S

@DryMango Residuals are AP Stats. A residual is the difference between an observed value of the response variable and the value predicted by the regression line that is: residual=observed y - predicted y.

Thanks @Wisconsinite99 !!

Does anyone know how hard the pr tests 2016 are compared with the real thing

@lebron236 I’ve taken only one practice test off of that book so I can’t be sure but based on what I’ve read the English section is pretty good. The math section is a bit different than the ACT (still good though). Reading sections don’t have paired passages, but the rest is so much like the ACT . Also apparently science sections don’t have conflicting viewpoints passages.

Oh ok would you know about the barons book too

Good luck to all those taking the ACT tomorrow! Just relax and you’ll do great! You have been preparing for this since day 1!

So how did everyone do?
I thought the maths test was a tad harder than what I usually did.
I got confused in a few reading ones and science was good, I guess.

Good Luck to all

Math was very easy for me, guessed on 2.
Science, on the other hand…I took L’s left and right.

I think I did well on both the reading and writing section. The science section tripped me up at the end (because it took me a while to figure out what I was looking at). I’m terrible at math and ran out of time at the end (I had to guess on the last 15 questions…) so I’m definitely not expecting a great score.

Math felt very quick and rushed. All other sections weren’t too bad. I guess for 2 on math. Yikes

I felt like English and Reading were your typical difficulty. Science didn’t seem anything out of the ordinary either, but I am brain fried and there probably were questions that I struggled with but just forgot about because my brain gradually became more dead as I took the test. The conflicting viewpoints(science) and shared passages(reading) I found easier than usual. Math had one question on a topic that I don’t ever recall learning about and im in calc right now. Besides that there were some typical challenging ones but also a barrage of those really easy questions.
