December SAT International Test Discussion

Is that fish problem 54?

Yes, 54. :)

I don’t remember the exact phrasing of the lion question but from what I recall the answer was No Error. I think it went something like “The mountain lion is one of the most feared species…”, in which case one of, not some of, would be right, since the reference is to one species.

I’m still holding out for philosophical for the Alistair question, though. In the conversation, the subject matter was scientific, but I’d say that Alistair’s interpretation of the gene map was much more philosophy-based, especially coupled with his belief in fate. But I can see how you could argue for either one. Darn the ambiguous CB!

ok.
so what is the unofficial verdict for the experimental section? the montaigne one?

That was my interpretation as well - though I’m open for it to be the other response as well. But just going by intuition (its usually served me well), I got a very philosophical vibe from Alistair. He used very figurative images talking about fate, whereas the author was more literal.

IKR?! We’ve practically reconstructed the entire CR section! Haha. Considering it was one of the sections everyone (at the beginning of the thread) wanted to avoid talking about! :D

does anyone know the curve for the june 2009 US SAT?

@bomnibomna
54…Pretty sure.

@crazi4uni
I don’t know the exact curve, but my friend who took June SAT said the CR curve was NORMAL

@nitcomp
unofficially… the montaigne one was experimental

@Alt_F4 & theskylitup
If you notice the last post in the June SAT thread, the guy said he put scientifically inclined and got 800
Though 800 doesn’t neccessarily mean getting everything correct

Hmm Erialc - That’s cool. I can definitely see the argument for scientific (Occam’s Razor, Collegeboard’s tendency toward the literal etc), and really, I’m quite open to getting a few wrong. (Well…more like one wrong lol).

@theskylitup
wow, you did a great job. You’ll probably get a 800. Congratulations!
I got 6 wrong, but I’ll be satisfied if I score 700+

Identifying sentence error: “what appears to be” had an error?

@erialc

“what appears to be” was the error. it should have been “what appear to be”, because the portion after that phrase was in plural. if im right it was “ruins” (?) not sure.

im a bit low now :frowning:
can someone PLEASE tell me if i could get 650+ with 13 wrong in reading?
and 700+ with 4 wrong in math?
thanks :)

I added this thread to my favorites. Even if some of the things I saw here didn’t make me happy because I realized I made mistakes, I hope that I will have a better score than the one I got in October. I’m a senior, so it’s my last chance. From what I’ve seen I am confident that all of you will have great scores and will enter at great universities.

^hah thanks for the inspiration.

i wish i break 2000 (i know, im posting this for the second time…, but do you think i can break 700 in math with -4 and 650 in reading with -13?)

haha im so tensed

Aww! That was lovely! (Sorry, I’m semi-British, so I say lovely alot, lol).
I think you’ve got a great attitude - everyone makes mistakes, and certainly our worth as people is definitely in no way related in any way to a number on a page ( a number operating according to some curve no less!).

My personal opinion is that for me, (I’m applying to the most competitive ivies) however I do in the SATs or SAT IIs, that’s the least interesting part of my application, and hence the one I feel most dismissive of. I feel that in my essays and extracurriculars and simply in my passions as a person and thinker - lie what the colleges will connect with really and “see” me for.

Really, I’m a great believer in the person first, numbers second. And tbh, I’m pretty glad that that attitude seemed to also be one the held by the places I’m interested in applying to.

So for everyone else- if colleges like you, they will probably like you as a complete person rather than a number! And of course, **I wish you all the VERY best, and that you will do well and smash this little thing called the SAT. **:)

Tbh compared to the national examinations I went through about a month ago (A level takers will empathise…or IBers…) SATs seem practically fun, and a side thing.

@ theskylitup: I’ve been told the exact same thing about the A levels and the SATs!!

@ nitcomp:

About the Math, you CAN (I would say 710 or 720). I got three wrong and ended up with a 740. I’m not sure whether the question I got wrong was on the Grid-in part (which wouldn’t count toward my score) though.

About the CR, I have no idea. : )

Holy monkeys…
The philosopher passage was NOT experimental?
Now I’m not feeling too confident ]:
What were the SCs of section 6? Does anyone recall?

Essay
Reading (includes 2 long passages)
Mathematics (includes SPR questions)
Writing
Equating (the one that doesn’t count toward your score)
Reading
Math
Reading
Math
Writing

So was section 5 the one about Montaigne?

“can someone PLEASE tell me if i could get 650+ with 13 wrong in reading?
and 700+ with 4 wrong in math?”

I got 13 wrong in reading last time and got a 640… so I doubt it. Also, a 750 in math with 3 wrong. Right now its looking like only 4 wrong on CR though:)

And yes, the passage on Montaigne was the 5th section.

@Blitzer
that’s reassuring. i mistook the montaigne section for section 6. when i learnt section 5 was experimental, i was like “WHAT?”¡*
anyone else can confirm section 5 was montaigne section?

I’m also freaking out Erialc… Hahaha
Confirmation section 5 was Montaigne please?? D:

Yes, I am quite sure 5 was Montaigne. Because I know Montaigne came before African dude and I had Math after both Reading sections, followed by a break.
