December SAT Scores are In!

SAT Scores are avaliable on Collegeboard.com Now!

I just got mine in and they went up from a 550 in CR to a 610 and from a 560 in Math to a 580!

Isnt that Sweet!!!! Hopefully this helps my application come 2nd round of reviewing and helps my chances of receiving an appt. from the alternate pool!

congrats man!

is that the usual CGA SAT?

i think the average is in the 1200s

The last couple years it was about 1280. But of course there is a range which you seem to fall in. Good job and good luck!

Thanks Everyone!

So im hoping this helps for my file because I mean, I was academically qualified, and that was with my old scores, so this can do nothing but help, ya know?

CB you and Lesya better get in or I'm gonna kick some butts in the admissions office!

My son had a 580 CR, 590 Math and 640 Writing and was told to "improve" them. This is in addition to a GPA of over 4.0 in college level/AP classes. Go figure! He's still hoping to get an appointment in the Alternate pool.

Thats good to hear!!! I really want this, and it's always good to have some more support!

Thats right! I better get in one way or another. even NAPSis fine with me. rather that b/c then i get an extra year to practice and mess up. Its all I want for Christmas..I mean the new year!

Like all of the academies the USCGA does not really look at GPA. The academic score includes SAT/ACT scores and class rank (which includes course difficulty). Interestingly the USCGA puts far more weight on the English SAT/ACT than the other academies. Most give Math and English equal weight or weigh the Math score more heavily.

Interesting if true. I've never heard this. Where'd you get that info? Esp. on the emphasis on the English SAT and not caring about GPA

This statement does not hold any truth.

It's hard to believe the USCGA weights the verbal SAT score higher than math especially when they are trying to attract engineering students. The stereotypical engineering student has a higher math SAT than verbal score.

CGA doubles math score in their academic admissions formula. I'm sure I read this before.

Have to agree with you guys. CGA is an engineering school.

"Interesting if true. I've never heard this. Where'd you get that info?:

Yes, I thought it was interesting too. It is information that was presented at an all academy seminar last year comparing the breakdown of whole candidate scores for the 5 acadamies.

"This statement does not hold any truth."
If you have more accurate information I would be interested in seeing it.

"CGA doubles math score in their academic admissions formula. I'm sure I read this before."
Read it where?

OK - I can see I ruffled some feathers. Before I go back to my usual board ( I came over to check out your board after a really great young man I have known for years received his acceptance for the class of 2011)
I am not saying that GPA is not considered - just that it is not factored into the whole candidate score. Think about it. Almost every school has a different way of calculating their GPA. In addition, school grades are very subjective and standards vary from teacher to teacher let alone from school to school. I'm sure admissions looks at grade reports and GPA. They also look at the candidate's school's profile (college admission list, college acceptance rate, courses offered etc.) Class rank is a far more objective measure than GPA and tells the academy admissions department how well you have performed relative to your peers who have been offered the exact same opportunities. Class rank levels the playing field.
Who knows how the CGA sees the Math SAT/ACT (exact details are not published). Maybe they have a higher minimum Math requirement and thus weigh it less. Maybe they see a higher level of math being more predictive of ability to cope with high level engineering calculus and factor that (course difficulty) in elsewhere.
Take the information for what it is worth - exactly what you paid for it :). I was only trying to help a poster who seemed confused that a candidate would be told to raise his/her SAT scores when they had a GPA higher than a 4.0.

We know, though the tens of hours the prospective and now some present cadets put into applying for the CGA. We are talking letters sent from academy officials, hours of researching CGA website ( if I may say the best informational service academy website hands down out there), hours driving to and from academy to visit, hours spent preparing for application that the prospects put into gaining admission into CGA. When you state a false admission factor such as CGA doesn’t put that much weight into the SAT math, I'm sure you are going stoke a few fires . So when I ask my kid for a assurance that the CGA doubles the math SAT and only uses a single english SAT in it’s admission equation, then he cuncurs, I can then say read my type: CGA doubles its math SAT score.

My admissions officer told me the exact same thing. Math score is doubled when factored in with your verbal score and class rank to determine your academic qualifications.
