Decent 4yr Korean University-> U.S. CC -> Great U.S. 4yr University

Hey parents, my son is planning to transfer from a decent 4yr Korean university(just finished freshmen) to a CC or 4yr university in the States just to get my music career going.

He is planning to transfer again to a 4yr US university after 1yr at CC or 4yr university.

If you ask me why he’s not transferring after he’s done with my sophomore year in Korea is bcuz he want to start his music career ASAP in the U.S., and the U.S. unis only accept about 1/2 of Korean uni credits; thus, it would be better for him to leave sooner than after his sophomore year to graduate on time.

Also, the reason he’s am transferring to another 4yr uni, if he choose a 4yr U.S. uni in his sophomore year, is because his grades or SAT are not good enough yet to attend really great schools.

So the part where he has trouble the most is in whether he should transfer to a CC or a late top 100 4yr uni in the states.

Either choice, he will eventually transfer again in his junior year.

I heard that the upsides of attending CCs are that grades are relatively easier to get and are cheaper to attend.

And the upsides of 4yr uni are that it is harder to get grades; thus, they will give you better marks when transferring but expensive to attend.

I would really appreciate it if someone can share their tips and knowledge!

Thank you very much in advance and take care.

Are you the student? Your other posts seem to indicate that you are. I don’t know the answer to your question, but don’t pretend to be a parent when you aren’t.

“Hey parents, my son is planning to transfer from a decent 4yr Korean university(just finished freshmen) to a CC or 4yr university in the States just to get my music career going”

LOL. Don’t pretend to be the parent. Besides being against the forum rules, it’s silly and immature.

Why should you transfer to a cc and then a 4-year school? If you have the grades (and the money!) go to a 4-year school right away. Also, in the US, you don’t need a college degree to “get your music career going” unless you mean classical. In which case you should definitely go to a 4-year school right away since its a highly competitive field and you will need all the high-level connections possible. And high-level connections aren’t easy to get via a community college.

Whoa. Why would a student enter a four year college with the intent of transferring? Why not just apply to schools one intends to complete a degree at? The probability of being admitted to a more elite school as a transfer is not that great. Go to a school that accepts you and that you can get the desired education at for your bachelor’s degree. If your mastery of English or other factors limit you it may be best to get the Korean undergrad degree.

A true career in music can wait the additional few years needed to finish at the current college in Korea. The music career would have to wait until after college in the US as the student would be too busy to add a job to being a full time student- especially someone new to the country, customs and language as used here.

Choices must be made. Gratification- college degree and or music career- must be delayed if one wants to have both. Now is the time to finish college. Music can wait but it would be too hard to finish college while trying to establish oneself in any field. Your (yes, this seems to be a student) future will not be ruined by delaying an entry into the music business. Getting a college degree can easily be derailed with constant transferring (if even successfully accepted by schools). Also- who is to say you will be successful in music? Get the backup college degree you may need when your music career falters (or never takes off).

I suspect you will be shocked at your chances for a “great” (defined by whom???) university. Especially if you attempt to reach it via far lesser choices such as a community college where you are not from.
