Decent, but a bit scared

<p>Hi, I'm a Hispanic guy from Virginia applying to engineering schools with decent SATs, Grades and ECs. My grades freshman year and sophomore year were ok, but junior and senior year I've pulled it up to mostly all As.</p>

<p>I'm a bit worried because of my freshman and sophomore grades, as they are a bit lower than I would like. How will they impact my application as a whole?</p>

<p>Also my Math SAT II is lower than what is "good" for an engineering student. I'm hoping my other scores will make up for it?</p>

<p>SAT: 2170 (720 Math; 740 Reading; 710 Writing)
SAT IIs: 800 US History; 800 World History; 740 Math; 790 Chem
APs: 5 World History; 5 US History; 4 English Lang; 5 Chem</p>

<p>National Hispanic Recognition Scholar (Kind of like Nation Merit, but a bit easier and only for Hispanics)</p>

<p>I'm getting a rec from my AP Chem teacher and my Russian teacher. I was top of the class in both, and both of them know me fairly well and liked me.</p>

<p>I think that the only two schools you might have to worry about are CMU and Cornell, although to be honest you being an underreprested minority definitely helps. Your test scores definitely put you up there, but those types of schools have their pick of students to bring in. In my mind, Cornell and CMU are a half step below the ivies (I know Cornell is an ivy, but let’s be real it’s easier to get into), so I think you have a very good chance at both. Chance me back if you can!</p>

<p>No. RPI’s admissions standards are a lot higher than Vatech’s. RPI is a solid match for you.</p>
