Decent experience but poor GPA (rising senior)

I'm a senior Creative Writing and Sociology major with a pretty poor GPA from a top 25 school in the midwest (3.1, but trending upward and hopefully a 3.3-3.4 by the time I graduate. I had a rough time adjusting to college and had a death in the family freshman year.) However, I have had good work experience. I have worked as a business office assistant before college and a newswriter and office assistant at college. I've been published in school publications, and held internships every summer in journalism and tech writing, including this summer. I've also held leadership positions at school and other activities.

My question is that for a full time job, will my GPA hold me back from being employed?

It probably depends on what you want to do and how relevant the experience you have is to the job you want. In general, >3.0 is good enough for most employers. I’ve known people who had <3.0 GPAs and were still able to get full time jobs out of undergrad, but they were in more science and engineering oriented fields. I would say that at least a 3.0 is good enough, and the more experience you get after school, the less important your GPA will be anyway.
