Decent GPA, but high test scores - thoughts?

As I’m applying to selective/top schools, I’m getting a bit nervous at my GPA/class rank - I’m happy with my test scores, however.

My scores (ACT) fall usually between the 50th to the 75th percentile, sometimes on/over the 75th percentile (depending on if it’s a low/high reach for me). I’ve come to be a pretty good test taker, so this definitely helps. I do, however, have quite a few B’s on my transcripts, making my GPA on or even below the average for these schools. I’m in the top 6% but I’m at an easygoing public high school, where the average ACT is like a 25 (although IB kids like myself are a lot more higher achieving/competitive).

What do colleges think of these type of students? Do you guys think that a somewhat higher test score(s) can compensate for a slighly lower GPA? How should I present myself in my application, given this?

Thanks!

If you are in the top 6% of your class, your apparently low GPA may be simply an outcome of tough grading scale of your high school. In that case, you don’t need to worry about it. The admission average GPA posted by each school would only indicate the GPA from average grading scale schools. When the adcom review your file, it will be in the context of your school. What is more important is to look up the Naviance data of your school, if available.
