Decent GPA, High SAT 1, weak ECs :(

Hey guys can you please chance me for the following UCs for bioengineering?
UCB
UCLA
UCSD
UCD
UCI

My UC weighted GPA is a 4.1 (schedule is challenging)
SAT I: 780 M, 680 CR, 790 W (2250 total), SAT II Math-770, SAT II Bio-740 (retaking this yr)

Extracurriculars (weak) :( :
1. Summer internship in office for city
2. 3 years volunteering at library working with kids
3. religious service club out of school
4. culture camp organization outside of school
5. Key Club
6. Leo Club
7. some science clubs
8. 4 years of youth summer leadership program
9. California orchestra (2 years)
10. private tutor (1 summer)
11. Plan to volunteer at hospital and find a summer internship in something related to bio

Other factors that may help:
I'm a California resident, my high school is ranked among top 20 public schools in nation so it is very competitive. Some family issues during sophomore year.

It'd be great if you could chance me! Thanks! :D

Oh! One thing I forgot to add, I’ll have over 300 hours in service hours.

UCB - low reach/high match
UCLA - high match
UCSD - low match
UCD - high safety
UCI - safety

i think you have a really good shot at all of the schools. maybe a high match at UCB and UCLA, but other than that i think youre in because of your school rigor, gpa, and test scores. and your ECs are good enough.

You’ll probably\definitely get into UCI, UCD, and UCSD. You’ve got pretty good chances for UCLA and Berkeley, but they aren’t definite. Your ECs are really only weak when you compare them with your excellent GPA and SAT scores. Your ECs will likely neither help nor harm your chances for Berkeley and UCLA.

None of your schools are outright reaches. I’d say you have great chances at everywhere except for UCLA and Berkeley. Those two you have a chance at getting in, but nothing is for sure.

I agree with previous comments. You have above average stats so that puts you in at Irvine and Davis (probably San Diego as well). LA and CAL are up for grabs for everybody only because the applicants they receive are similar and nuances can make all the difference. Keep your head up :)

Thanks guys! I was wondering, do I still have a very good chance at UCSD if I want to go into bioengineering? I hear that is one of their best programs.

UCI, UCD, and UCSD definitely will get into!

UCLA and UCB are extremely tough to get into but your sats are extremely high. id say you have a pretty good chance. somewhere in the 40-60% range

Really UCB is the hardest on your list, why don’t you have schools from east coast :frowning:
The rest are pretty good if you continue at your current position

your standardized test scores are all really strong, so I’d say you’re at least a high match for all of your schools- none of them are a shot in the dark. i’d say you’re a safe bet at UCI, UCD, and UCSD regardless of the programs!

bumppp…more chances please! :(

You’re SAT is very high, def. good for UCs.
I’d say Berkley and SD, out of other UCs would be a low reach/match.

I like your safeties too.

I guess for EC wise, more leadership would have made you even stronger applicant, but it’s too late for now, and I think you’re perfectly fine.

Are you fixed on the west coast?

SAT is good, you might like to expand on your list of SAT II’s along with improving your scores. GPA good !
EC’s are good, but a few leadership positions in addition to some bioengineering EC’s will help a lot .
Essays can really help you now ! The UC deadline isnt far away . Spend as much time as possible over your 2 SOP’s.
I might be wrong , but isn’t UCSD renowned for BME/Bio-engineering? is that your first choice?

Well, my first choice is UCB, but I would also love to get into UCSD’s Bioengineering program. I’ll definitely spend a lot of time on my essays. If I write good essays, what do you think my chances are for UCB and UCSD bioengineering program?

Bummpp!! More chances please!

You will get into Irvine, no questions asked. EC’s are admittedly weak, but I feel that UC’s are more about stats. Therefore:

Irvine - 99.9% acceptance

Davis - 95% chance

San Diego - 80% chance

Los Angeles - 70% chance

Berkeley - 50% chance

CHANCE BACK: [Where to apply/Chance for Columbia ED - College Confidential](http://www.■■■■■■/ChanceMe)

Considering your school’s strong ranking and your course rigor, I think you have a fairly strong chance at all the UC’s except for UCB.
UCB-Low reach (Berkeley bio is hard!!!)
UCLA-High match low reach
I’m fairly certain you’ll get into the rests
Good luck! :)

Thank you so much! I was wondering, what type of GPA does UCB and UCLA use? I heard that unlike the other UCs, they do not put a cap on the number of weighted semesters you have. Is that how a lot of other thread starters have like 4.5+ GPAs? I have a lot more than 8 semesters of weighted courses, so just wondering :stuck_out_tongue: Thanks!

I’d say you are definitely in everywhere with the exception of Berkeley, which you’ll probably get into, but there is a chance you wouldn’t. My cousin went there for BioChem and said the competition there is crazy. The UCSD BioEngineering program is really great as you already know :)
