Decent Liberal arts colleges in northeast area

Im interested in pre-med or a bio/chem major

GPA - 3.7 (UW)
- 4.3 (W)

4.0 in all science courses

Decent ECs - Varsity football, NHS, math honor society, science honor society, around 40 volunteer hours at time of application (at least).

Goign to a college with a 50,000 dollars tuition is out of the question unless i could get a ton of aid or a scholorship.

I live in maryland, so i would rather stay in the northeast/new england area.

btw, how is St. Mary's College of maryland?

Thanks for your time

bump (10char)

If you want a small liberal arts college, then you are lucky to be living in Maryland. SMCM would make an excellent safety or “match” school for someone with your stats. In fact, for the money, you might prefer it over many more selective (and expensive) options.

We visited last April. The waterfront campus is beautiful, the facilities impressive, and it seems to have good programs in the life sciences.

St. Mary’s is a terrific option if a LAC close to home is what you want. More expensive than UMD, but not $50k p.a. Lovely location, nice facilities, and smaller classes.

Recommendations elsewhere depend upon your test scores.

Another interesting LAC in MD is St. John’s College in Annapolis.

There are several schools up the highway in SE PA, and I don’t think you can exit off the freeway in Massachusets without driving by a liberal arts college…

lynxinsider, i looked at st. johns; however, i dont really like the total students. Less than 500 is way too small for me.

Not to mention tuition is 50000. Unless i get some huge aid there’s no way i could afford it

Ive tried looking at more schools up in the new england area, but theres just so many of them its hard to find on that fits me.

If someone has any recommendations based on my stats above (limited, i know) that would be great

Focus on the New England based colleges in this list of Colleges that are need-blind and full-need for U.S. students:

[Need-blind admission - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia](Need-blind admission - Wikipedia)

In New England, Bates, Colby, Bowdoin. Colgate in New York.

I know someone at St. Mary’s who loves it there.

Have you figured out if you qualify for need based aid?

Do you know your class rank? Scores? We can’t address merit aid possibilities without them.

Sorry for not providing more information.

Im only a junior so i have yet to take many SAT/ACT tests. I just wanted to get a head start on the college search so im not scrambling around a month before application time.

Anyways, ive taken the SAT II Subject test in Chemistry and got an 800. Class rank is about 100/420. Public high school thats moderatly well known in my state.

Also, i dont think ill qualify for need based aid. Dad makes about 150000 and weve got 5 people in our family, only one in college (me)

Pennsylvania is crawling with LACs, many of which offer merit aid.

shennie, any suggestions based on my (limited) stats

It seems impossible to randomly go through all the colleges

Hood…
Someone I know graduated from there and has a graduate fellowship in Chemistry at Berkeley

Muhlenberg in PA. Great for pre-med, beautiful campus.

I like both Gettysburg and Ursinus in PA. Franklin & Marshall is another one.

I live like 15 minutes from hood, way too close to home for me.

Muhlenberg looks good, but it seems like itd be more of a safety for me. Would i get a pretty good aid package though, because that could make the decision easier

Ursinus also looks good, but at just over 1600 students it might be a little small. My high school has 1800

Allegheny meets your criteria and would give you merit aid. They are strong in science, especially chemistry and have a very good pre-med program.
