I am in a bit of a dilemma. I scored a 1950 on the SAT but a 21 on the ACT (It was a terrible day, my first standardized test and I was deathly ill :() Wesleyan University is my only conflict because they require the SAT and SATII or the ACT, and I have yet to take the SAT II and I don't think I would have time to. Wesleyan is my top 3rd choice next to USC and Boston College. There is one last SAT sitting I can take and I'm not sure if I should take the Subject Test or try to increase my Reasoning Test one last time. Should I not bother with Wesleyan and focus on my other colleges or risk taking and not doing so well on my first SAT II.

Requires only SAT or ACT (but SAT IIs are encouraged):
University of Southern California
Emory University

Requires ACT or SAT I and SAT II (but submitting ACT and SAT is possible--colleges will also take highest score b/w the two tests)
Boston College
Vassar College

Requires SAT and SAT II OR ACT (one or the other--no exceptions)
Wesleyan University

SAT Optional:
Bard College

You should double check your list you have 3 colleges that require SAT I AND (2) SAT II scores OR the ACT with writing. BC, Vassar and Wesleyan all have this requirement. Did you take the ACT with writing? The next SAT exam is not until 1/28. You could call these colleges and ask if they can accept the scores from 1/28. Good luck.

From a practical matter, your ACT will not be competitive at the college on your list. Without a huge hook, a 21 is near auto-reject.

BC requires subject tests with the SAT, as does Wesleyan & Vassar. (You are reading their webpages incorrectly.) Thus, if you want to apply to those schools, you must take the STs to submit your SAT score.

I have called all 3 colleges that require certain standardized test options. Vassar and Boston College have both said that an applicant is allowed to send the SAT and ACT without SAT IIs. I did take the ACT with writing as well. I even found on Vassar’s website that:

“For candidates taking both the SAT Reasoning Test and the ACT, Vassar will use whichever scores are higher.”

I’ve called admissions officers twice to ensure this. I’m not sure if this would be a huge hook but I am an athlete (Women’s Rowing), for Boston College, Wesleyan, or USC, and a URM (African American). I think all colleges listed will take the January sitting of the SAT except for Boston College.

Yes, you can send any and all scores. If you send the SAT+ST’s and ACT+W, they will use whatever is higher. BC’s website clearly says SAT+ST’s OR ACT. SAT+ACT is not an option.

IMO, you are mis-reading the Vassar’s website.

It does not say that they will accept the SAT without subject tests if you send the ACT. It just says that they will use the highest score between the two. When you call, ask to speak to an admissions officer. At BC, for example, student volunteers sometimes answer the phone, and they may not always understand your question clearly enough to respond correctly.

If you are recruited, that counts as a huge hook. URM counts a lot as well.

Good luck on your 'dilemma".
