<p>Hi CC members
I'm a Korean international student who studies in Canada considered applying to MIT. Of course, my student counselor told me not to apply to MIT since it's IMPOSSIBLE. And I told him back that nothing is impossible. lol I've heard million times that HYPSM's admission for Asian international students is just, just, just brutal. And among few people I heard of among admitted Koreans in MIT, they all had similar range 2350+ SAT score, but oddly enough, not much ECs nor impressive ECs. So I began to doubt, can decently bright Asian international student get into MIT? My question is, can Asian international with 2200+ SAT with decent or in some degree, impressive ECs, get into MIT? I haven't seen a single one (perhaps I just meet rly few MIT student) with such intermediately decent score in MIT. I wish if some of you can share ur anecdotes or perhaps ppl u met or know of. If I ask MIT admission officer about this question, he/she would definitely say, 'oh yeah any qualified student has a fair chance in MIT even if GPA is slightly low or SAT score is slightly low for Asian international applicants.' just like what other Ivies would say which I think is ********. I definitely hope to see some Asian international MIT student with 2200s SAT score without a crazy special accomplishment but any bitter truth, I'll welcome.
Thanks!</p>
<p>Your score is such a tiny part of your application and it will not make or break your application. So yes, a 2200+ is fine.</p>
<p>You can look through the [CC</a> results thread from last year](<a href=“http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/massachusetts-institute-technology/1253209-consolidated-ea-rd-2016-results-thread.html]CC”>http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/massachusetts-institute-technology/1253209-consolidated-ea-rd-2016-results-thread.html) to see profiles of students who were admitted/waitlisted/rejected. There aren’t a huge number of international applicants, but there are some. And the results threads for the past five years or so are linked in the first post of the FAQ thread stickied at the top of the forum.</p>
<p>^HateSMUS Don’t get discouraged looking at the results thread. I don’t think anyone expects to be admitted at MIT, so if you get in, good!</p>
<p>haha I’m discouraged. I wish MIT shares some statistics of admitted international students, but oh well. Hardly anyone who posted on MIT RD result is Asian international, so I don’t have much accessible statistics. Also I don’t have any hook nor am I URM. I guess I’ll still give it a shot but not expect much. International SAT average, ironically, is higher than American average for most of the prestigious schools, quite often 2300+. For students like me who started learning English at grade 7, 2300 SAT is such a hard barrier to overcome Anyway, thanks for your replies, I’ll just keep my finger crossed!</p>
<p>OMG. i thought SAT score for international student will be lower for international student. I’ve never studied in US or any other English speaking places. Scoreing 2100+ is already the best i can do!
So i guess it is impossible for me to get into MIT with 2100+ , even if I’ve done research work?</p>
<p>well, MIT admission officers ‘officially’ say because the admission process is holistic, prospective students who scored 700 or above in all subsection are considered qualified although they occasionally accept scores below 2000 and reject 2400. They didn’t mention ‘for internationals’ so I guess this is a general guideline.</p>
