daammit this is hard. is anyone else indecisive

i just realized this was a retarded post.

I live in southern california
and.. i dont know whether i'd prefer a city or small town...
i like the city.. but the small town thing intimate and ..
it could be a good experience i guess?

im asian..so i dont have a problem with berkeley's population

so it seems like several of you wONDERFUL! people say i shoudl choose cal..
btw im a regents there... so. thats a plus

but wellesley has a good reputation as well...

and to those who voted cal, do u know about wellesley as much as you
know about cal?

the counselors at my school are saying to choose wellesley...
especially if i want to pursue med school..
arghhhhh.
2 days!
i dont know waht to do!

Christina - My sense is that if you stop and reflect on what really attracted you to each of the two schools, you'll find that you're pretty clear on which one you want; you probably feel some sense of obligation to consider the other. The reason I say this is that you've chosen the two most dissimilar schools you can find. At the most basic level of college selection, you ask yourself "Which do I prefer: small or large? public or private? coed or single-gender? counterculture or traditional? east coast or west coast? I find it hard to believe that on ALL of these criteria you'd honestly answer "no preference." My guess is that your heart is saying Wellesley and your pocketbook is whispering Berkeley. If that's the case, go ahead and acknowledge that your preference is Wellesley and try to decide how much you like Wellesley - in financial terms. Would you pay an extra $25,000 over four years to go there? $50 K? $100 K? $200 K? THEN, calculate the cost differential and see where the two stack up. The good news is that regardless of the choice, you'll have a great experiecne, a great education, and for the rest of your life people will be impressed when you tell them where you went to college.

thanks gadad
that was about the best piece of advice ever.

i realized i do love wellesley.
but in calculating the costs..
its 26k+ more costly than berkeley over the 4 years

and i dont know if thats worth it..
i really dont know what to do
my parents say they cant afford it
and itll be difficult.. but less of a burden to go to cal

if i went to wellesley.. id have to do work study
and maybe a p/t job
and end up like.. 12k more in debt than if i were to go to cal
and really burden my parents and brother's college fund

and i want to go premed.. and dont knwo which school
would help me get to med school more easily..
should i go to cal and try my best and save moeny for med school?
or should i go to wellesley and pay and go to med school?

i feel selfish for wanting wellesley.
i like berkeley too.. i think if i went there.. i could love it

i have one day left
any advice for me.. anyone? thanks

I would definitely consider your finances. Both schools are of equal calibre, but considering the situation with finances (which is very considerate of you to think about your parents and your brother), I would personally select UC Berkeley.

Christina, do what one of the posters recommended a while ago on the forum. Chose one out of a hat and start filling out the paperwork and see how you feel. Will it work or won't it? Let your feelings become real.

Would a call to the Financial Aid office at Wellesley have any impact at this point? They might have some suggestions about how to minimize the differential (e.g. installment plan?).

christina, for med school I suggest Wellesley, 26K+ for 4 years is nothing, it's not like 80K over 4 years. Cal is very hard to get good grade for med school. My next door office person's son went to Cal for pre-med, got 2.8 GPA, so now the medical school dream is over.(This kid go 4.0 in a reasonably competitive school in S. Cal) Cal is a very competitive place. You are lucky you only have to pay 26K for Welleslay(4-year total cost, is that right?). If you work every summer you should be able to reduce that.
I'm neither pro/anti UC, it depends on each individual circumstances.
