I've been on the fence as to whether or not I should make one of these, but I thought why not. I already posted in this section but decided to maybe give some more insight and maybe receive a better opinion. I'm looking to get into the PetE program at A&M, and would love to hear some thoughts.

I'll just give some info as I've never really made one of these:

State: Louisiana
School: competitive private
Rank: 13/166
GPA: 4.06 W 3.6~ UW (not that sure, may be better)
ACT: 27

Courses: Basically the hardest my school has to offer, and from what I've found college counselors are just looking to be sure you challenged yourself while you were there, and aren't necessarily comparing you to another applicant who's school might offer 20 AP's while mine might only have 6.

EC's:
Soccer all four years, lettering 2. Probably stopping this year due to health reasons. (But picking up golf! :D)
Traveling club soccer team, all four years (this and school combined sucks up a lot of time)
National Honor Society, since we could get in
Student Hosts (school service group), all four years
Mu Alpha Theta, since we could get in
LaSallian Youth Leaders (service ministry), 9th, 10th
Student Council, all four years
Participating this year in the Shell Eco-Marathon car build-off (1st year school participating)
Lifeguard for 2 summers, wouldn't recommend haha.

Awards:
I'll just list the ones that come to mind for now,
1st Astronomy and Physics school fair, 1st Regionals Astronomy and Physics, also receiving the Office of Naval Research Award.
1st Economics school fair, 1st regional economics (project about engineering if that helps)
Typical honor roll junk
Golden Torch Award, 2 years. (thing our school gives out for very active students)
a medal for having over 75 service hours in a year
I believe there is more but it's a tad late.

Thanks for any comments/criticism, I would love to go here.

And I have a visit scheduled within the next week, and another ACT scheduled for like sept. 11. Now should I send in what I have now, or wait? Could a better score be updated?

What is your math score? You are in at A&M, but I don’t really know about PetE. Applying now would probably be best unless you are sure you could get a 30+ ACT score on the retake. I think the better score could be updated, but don’t quote me on that. A&M has rolling admissions btw…

I applied the first day I could with a 33 in Math and 30 in science and didn’t get my first choice major (mechanical). I’m looking towards transferring to petroleum now too possibly. Somebody I know who isn’t too smart just transferred in from another engineering major which shouldn’t be a problem dependent on available space.

Yeah he transferred to PE just fine. You’ll probably get in… I just wouldn’t think you’d get PE.

I’m trying to remember the application process but I just don’t. I don’t know if you can even select both of your intended majors to be engineering but if I were you I wouldn’t do that. If you get accepted into the engineering school you will choose what major to be placed in if yours is already full. So for example don’t pick 1. PE 2. ME instead choose like 1. PE 2. General Studies. I don’t know maybe they would place you in GS anyways if both of those were full but that’s just how I did it.

I was 1. Mechanical 2. General Studies and I got an email saying mechanical was full and to select another major so I just chose Industrial because it was along the same track.

The first year of the classes are all the same anyways except if you aren’t in PE you’ll be missing out on one credit hour of PETE 121 or something like that I think.

haha OP is very much aware whatup, and it’s like going to the doctor always nice to have a second opinion.

And I’ll probably also check off Civil engineering for the second one as that always held interest with me also. Appreciate the help no hurt in trying.

You are in the top 10% of your class so you are into the University in automatic admission.
And unless you decide to bomb your Math SAT/ACT there should be no problem getting into Engineering.

Thomas17 is from out-of-state (Louisiana), so the top 10% rule does not apply. It is only for Texas high school students. However, anyone can qualify for the automatic academic admit of top 25% and minimum 1300 SAT/30 ACT score with at least a 600 (SAT) or 27 (ACT) in each of the math and reading sections.
