I’ve already begun my essay, but I’m beginning to wonder if I chose the best topic. I chose to write about my time volunteering at a local summer camp, and how I started as a reserved kid and became a confident leader.
However, I’m mixed- half white, half asian. Would a better topic be writing about living in both worlds? I.e. doing things that are stereotypically white (mainly sports in this case, but also social aspects like going to Hoco/Prom (I wouldn’t write about that but thats just to show I don’t spend my time studying)) and balancing that with things more stereotypically asian (piano, academic achievement, various math/science competitions, as well as other social aspects like the fact I was the last kid in my grade to have a phone and I have no social media, which where I live is almost a sin). I live in a small town where my group of friends is the most diverse of our class, and its a mix between country and “upper”/middle class white people mainly.
I think the summer camp essay will be good but not stellar (it wouldn’t be anything that blows the competition out of the water), but I’m already 500 words in. My deadline for scholarships is Oct. 15th, would it be worth exploring the possibility and begin writing the race essay?
As for caliber of the essay/student I am, I’m applying to multiple Ivy Leagues and am academically qualified enough to attend.
