I am a rising senior student athlete who is trying to decide between NYU and Villanova. I have met with both coaches and both say they could get me into the schools; however, I would get to decide between the business school and liberal arts school at Villanova, whereas I would go to the liberal arts college at NYU.
In the future I plan on going to law school and I want a school that I will live, but also will give me great opportunities to succeed.
I like how Villanova is Division 1 and more or a college campus, but I feel NYU might be a little bit more reputable.
Any thoughts?

Two really different schools, but both are reputable from what I know.

Would you rather be in a huge city (NYU) or just outside of one (Villanova)?

Do you want a melting pot/diverse school (NYU) or one that is known to struggle to achieve diversity (Villanova is aka Vanillanova)?

Which coach and players did you click with more?

HSG

NYU has the stronger global name. However, I would personally pick Villanova if I had the choice because it has a more cohesive campus feel, D-1 sports, and school spirit. Villanova also has good academics and the class sizes are likely more manageable. The main appeal of NYU is that it is in New York City — but New York City isn’t going anywhere and you can always live in the East Village after graduation and have a comparable experience.

Thanks guys. Personally I don’t mind being in the city or not. I can see myself in both settings. I did much rather prefer the coach at Villanova but sports are taken Much more seriously there. At NYU I would focus more on school probably.

Villanova and NYU are both pretty reputable schools. I think Villanova will give you a more “traditional” college experience - the kind that you see on TV and in movies - whereas NYU’s experience is more eclectic and urban. If you like sports, you may enjoy Villanova’s environment more.

Honestly, I think if NYU weren’t in New York it wouldn’t get so much attention.

The bottom line is that are both excellent schools. If you do well at either NYU or Villanova you will be in great shape. You earned the right to attend whichever school you prefer.

As of a couple years ago when I checked, it was very hard for liberal arts students to transfer to the business school at Villanova. Also, liberal arts students could not do a business minor unless they attended college over the summer. Therefore, if you are undecided and able to get into either, start at the business school. You can always decide to transfer to liberal arts later.

NYC is a really great place to visit, but I think most undergrads do better in a lower stress, lower cost environment with fewer distractions.
