Deciding between schools

Hello all,

I am having a really tough situation trying to decide between schools. At this point the schools I have been accepted to and am also considering are:

-NYU
-William & Mary
-GWU
-University of Maryland, College Park

At first I was pretty set on either NYU or William & Mary but I just received my financial aid package from GWU and I would only be paying $11,000 a year compared to the $35,000 a year for NYU.

I have not gotten my packages back from William & Mary yet, or Maryland but I am in state so I'm sure it will be cheap.

I am trying to get some insight on what you all know about these schools and what some of your opinions are when thinking of the financial situations.

Thanks!

I don’t think NYU is worth the difference in price. So many students go into crippling debt each year for NYU. If you were able to attend at an affordable rate, that would be great. However, you already have one much better offer, likely two, and maybe another.

Good luck.

NYU is not worth the cost. If you get good aid package from William and Mary, that would be my choice, but any one of them will serve you well.

I agree completely with manarius.

This is exactly what I was going to say.

I wouldn’t even think twice between 11k and 35k especially since 11k is for George Washington!

Thank you all for your input!

Any more advice?

I agree that under these circumstances, NYU has become a very bad value for you. I wouldn’t go there if I were you.

I can’t quite jump on the “I’d go to W&M bandwagon” with everyone else, though–even though I like W&M a lot (in principle, at least, since I’ve never actually been there). W&M and GW are somewhat different; Williamsburg and Foggy Bottom are very different. If the prices are comparable, that might be a call that only you can make.

Does anyone have any thing to say about GW as a school?

GW is an excellent school–for full-pay people, it’s extremely expensive, so you are lucky to have a great aid offer. NYU is fine too, but not, as others have opined as well, worth the extra money. What are you planning to study? Do you want an urban location, or a more bucolic one? GW is right in DC, while W and M is located in a town and feels smaller/more intimate overall.

How can you be in-state for both W&M and UMCP?

@jingle I am looking for an urban location so GW would be great. Do you have any information on the school that you feel would be good to know? @McA513M Sorry, I was referring to just UMCP.

I would go to W&M if you get good enough aid. If W&M is not an option, UMD is a good choice. NYU isn’t worth the cost, even with your financial aid.

If you want an urban location, I would choose GW. GW has a lot of strong programs, and has great internship opportunities right in DC. I don’t think that NYU is worth the difference in cost. If William and Mary offer a package similar to GW’s it would be worth a visit. It’s an excellent school, but does not have an urban setting.
