Hey guys! So I'm deciding between two colleges: Loyola University Chicago and University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign. I know that Loyola isn't the toughest school to get in to, I've just heard that the crowd over there isn't "motivated" and "don't work hard", not sure what that means? And for U of I, I'm a bit worried that it's too big and I'll have a hard time getting to know my teachers if class sizes are huge. Could anyone help me here? I love everything else about the schools and know I'll get a good education at both!

True on both counts to some extent. In addition, the scale, location, general vibe is so different for these two schools its hard to imagine liking them equally.

Aren’t you applying to a few more universities (Lake Forest, DePaul…?) What would your major be? Did you get into the Honors Program at either UIUC or Loyola?

Have you looked at how many choices of majors there are at both schools/ both have programs you want?

I would vote for UIUC. Yes, UIUC is huge, and many classes will be taught by grad students (but many are better teachers than the profs!). True, in large classes you won’t get to know your main teacher, but there will be a TA (grad student) you will get to know. If you’re motivated, you won’t do badly. It’s a very good school, and you can challenge yourself just as much as you want to.
