Deciding between two majors in Life Science

I was admitted into UCLA under the major of Neuroscience. However, my problem is that I'm going back and forth between two majors: Neuroscience and Immunology. I love both subjects and am interested in both.

Would it be hard to switch to Immunology if after a year I realize that Neuroscience is not where I want to be? Would it be hard to double major in both? Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Are you talking about MIMG? The first two years for the majors are the same. Don't worry about it. You can declare MIMG or Neuroscience later.

i dont think they will let you double major because they are so similar. they offer a neuroscience minor, so you can do MIMG with neurosci minor if you want. though MIMG is regarded as one of the hardest LS majors (and neurosci is pretty tough itself), so im not sure if you would want to do that.

you wont know how neurosci is until you start taking the upper division neurosci classes around 3rd year because all the lower division classes are basically identical for all the life science majors.

i would say stick with neurosci until you take a neurosci class, then if you dont like it switch to MIMG. thats because the core neurosci upper divs are only offered once a quarter so it would be a harder to switch into neurosci after trying MIMG because you will be behind in coursework.

Yeah, MIMG. Well I guess that I have 2 years to decide what to do.

Hopefully in the upcoming year or so I'll figure out which path would be better for me. Thanks for the advice.

You can always wait until you take the Life Science(Biology) series. Any biology student, such as yourself, will need to take the series and they are designed to help you choose and distinguish which direction to head in

The LS series should help you decide which you want to go into. Like everyone else said, first two years are the same for any life science major, that is, the life science core classes. Haha, I read Immunology and INSTANTLY thought of Cameron from House. Anyone else?

you won't be taking any "major" classes till your junior year (probably). Just take the basic lower div courses and see what you like. It is EASY to switch between the LS majors.
