So I just got accepted to U of M’s nursing school after being deferred. Still kinda in shock and ecstatic about it.
In my first years of high school, I thought that U of M was my number one choice and ultimate dream school and that I would have to go there, but now I’m not so sure.
MSU has an amazing campus and the honors college has a bunch of benefits (getting to pick classes before everyone else, honors floors, etc.). I already have a lot of AP credits at MSU and should get even more after this year’s exams, which means potentially saving a ton of money as well as having more room in my schedule to pursue a minor or to simply have more time for other things. However, their nursing program is definitely weaker than U of M’s.
U of M has an awesome campus as well; I love the city vibe it has that MSU lacks. Their nursing school is undoubtedly higher ranked with better technology, it’s a direct-admit nursing school, I’ve had a little bit of wolverine in me since I was a baby thanks to relatives. However, it is a more competitive school: I know I will not be one of the top-ranked students there, and I feel like I’ll have less time to pursue a minor. It’ll also be more expensive; my parents will help me pay for college, but they don’t make a ton of money and I do not want to rely on them too much. Both schools have great study-abroad programs and research opportunities, and are of relatively equal distance away from home. I’m truly stumped.
I am going to visit the nursing programs of both schools as soon as possible, but I wanted to hear any thoughts from you wolverines, spartans, nursing students and/or grads!
