I was originally planning to go to Purdue since that was the best school I got admitted to, but earlier today I got a call from Boston University telling me that I got off the waitlist there. Basically right now I am deciding which University would be better to attend. At Boston, I am admitted to the mechanical major with aerospace concentration. And at Purdue, I am admitted as a First Year Engineering (like everyone else who applied for engineering at Purdue) and I need a high GPA for the first year in order to get into the Aerospace major. I really want to become an Aerospace major, so right now I’m having a hard time deciding between them because Purdue has a really good engineering program but BU is overall a better school. Pls give some advice about whether or not major ranking is really that important for undergrads. Cost of attending is not a very big factor in my decision. If anyone who went to or have experiences with either school can give out some unbiased advice I would really appreciated! Thank you!
I need to respond to BU tomorrow, pls help!
Purdue is the higher ranked school in engineering. State schools usually have the minimum GPA requirement. Cost an issue?
Direct admit to the specific engineering major is a nice way to start your college career. Ask yourself if you would be happy in mechanical or electrical if you don’t have one of the higher GPAs at Purdue.
As long as the program is ABET accredited it doesn’t really matter. Engineers are always a needed employee. With these 2 options, geography could play a role. Do you imagine staying on the east coast or midwest after graduation?
For engineering, I would choose Purdue in a heartbeat. They are a T10 program for engineering. Facilities, recruiting, and the career center are amazing.
FYE is a great program and you’ll get involved in hands on projects from day 1.
The GPA threshold for aero is a 3.2 in your STEM classes. If you struggle with that in your intro classes, upper level aero classes are going to be a nightmare.
@airway1 cost does not play a big part in my decision
