Does UCSD place a strong emphasis on applicants involved in sports? Everyone I know who got in was in sports. Does it matter that you suck in the sport?

If they do, that's odd, cause they don't give a damn about sports once you're here.

I didn't have a single sport and I was admitted. It all comes down to the points system; if sports will add that extra 300 points that tips you over 7531, then its going to be that extracurricular that tips you over the cutoff.

They don't really give a crap about sports here, like stated...they don't offer athletic scholarships and it's clear that in their minds sports are not a priority. UCSD's sports are third-tier compared to UCLA/Cal as a whole (YES i know we have water polo..we're D-2), no football..it's just not a part of campus life. watching sports on TV is big here though.

In terms of apps it's the complete package-just cuz u play a sport won't help u too much but it'll make your app look better, if that was your question.

^ they are going to start offering athletic scholarships next year.

and just cause they don't care about sports here doesn't mean that they don't like people who played sports in high school.

you guys are totally missing the point.

they want well rounded people here. and playing sports and getting the high gpa shows something. it shows you have interests and are able to time manage your buisiness.

Is the OP just referring to people who played sports in high school or to people who were admitted into UCSD to play a D2 sport for the university? UCSD does recruit athletes for admission but they still need to meet the requirements of admissions. They can (and do) have their application pushed up to the top as a recruited athlete.

cool-nice to know that they're givin out athletic scholarships-but I'm still hoping we can move up to D-1 someday, but if it does happen we all know it won't happen in at least 10 years (at least imo)

Thanks for the help. I was in track my freshmen year and quit my sophmore year because I hated the experience and it was too time consuming. Is it better to be in track or editor in chief, which is what I will be.
