Deciding Factor

What was the deciding factor for you guys when choosing your prospective college?

Your input would be greatly appreciated, because I really like 2 schools and besides a visit how would/did you decide between them?

size,location, rep.

Mine was money. $40,000+/year to go to Stanford, SCU, or USC...versus $0 to be in the Honors program at U of Maryland-College Park, I didn't have to do much thinking.

^ lol..me too kinda.. my parents are willing to pay 10 grand tops!! lol.

But i look at size, majors, location

Location,size,and majors.

My "fit." Schools were all on the same level (Dartmouth, Columbia, Brown, Duke).

location, size, reputation, money,

$40,000 in grants from Princeton is pretty hard to turn down.

Location, size, majors, and cost are pretty much the same for the 2 schools I like. As for reputation one is known for being a party school (still strong academically) and the other is know soley for academics and is definately more prestigious.

When the school's are this close do you just go with your gut feeling?

What are the schools?

UCSD and UCSB

I prefer UCSB's atmosphere, but I know UCSD is a better school. I'm sure I will be really happy at whatever school I choose.

I would probably have to say the girls.

Fit for me as well, provided that it met some other criteria like finances.

Tough choice!

The deciding factor for me was how I felt when I walked on the campus. I visited a lot of colleges that looked really good on paper (e.g. UPenn), but felt completely off and wrong for me, so I didn't apply. Visits really are important, but I digress.

Since you're not using visits...
availability/strength of potential major, housing, campus, location

Well hmm, at first it was all about the money, but when six of my choices all gave about the same that went out the window. So, then my choice among the six ended up b/w academics, prestige, distance from home, and greek life. But after I actually managed to visit the colleges, it came down to three, and then I finally made my decision on pure instinct of which I think I will be happiest in for the next four years.
