Deciding my future college(Help)

I am an international applicant and my application has been accepted by Virginia Tech, Michigan Ann arbor, UC San Diego, UCLA, UC Santa Barbara , Ohio State, Penn State -University Park and Stony Brook . I have applied to all these institutes intending to major in Computer Science. However I was unsure about engineering so I also applied to Yale, Swarthmore, Claremont Mckenna and University of Rochester considering a major in economics. I got into Swarthmore, Claremont Mckenna, and University of Rochester. The weather and scholarships are not an issue. I cannot visit the institutes before making my decision. Therefore any sort of help will be appreciated. I am looking for a college where the students are friendly and the quality of education is good. As you can see I am not absolutely sure about where I see myself 4 or 5 years from now so I will prefer an institute with a flexible education policy.

If you are going to go with Computer Science - then it’s either Michigan or UCLA

If you go with economics - go to Swarthmore.

Given that you are an international student you will find more diversity at UCLA and Los Angeles than you will in Ann Arbor or Philly. That said, if you want a more intimate setting with smaller classes Swarthmore is the obvious choice.

Michigan will give you a more “traditional” american university experience and to a slightly lesser extent so will UCLA. Swarthmore will give you a more intimate “liberal arts college” feel which many students prefer - especially those who are more focused intellectually - although at UCLA and Michigan given your major you will be focused.

In your case, I would personally choose between UCLA and Swarthmore - if you are unsure that you want to stay with Computer Science then go to Swartmore. But if you are certain than UCLA is the obvious choice.

Thank You fliqer. I am apprehensive about Michigan as it is a very huge university and one of my friends didn’t have a great experience. I am getting inclined towards Economics because of the whole atmosphere at Swarthmore. Out of the Universities mentioned under engineering which one is closest to the experience one would have at Swarthmore.A small community best for my intellectual growth. Carnegie Mellon,MIT were my first options but I didn’t get selected. I haven’t heard a lot about Rochester and Virginia Tech. Ohio Penn State ,Stony Brook and Michigan all come in the same group and Michigan would be my obvious choice. Out of the UC’s. UCLA would be the academic choice but I have some family friends living in San Diego. My parents want me to go to San Diego. How much of a difference is there between UCSD and UCLA?
