Deciding on a Master's program

Hello,

I am looking for some advice. I am currently pursuing a master’s degree in criminal justice (ASU). I was also studying for the LSAT so I could attend law school in August of next year. However, I came to the end of my LSAT study and decided that law school is not the right fit for me. I am looking at the following programs: MS Psychology, MS Forensic Psychology, MS Justice Studies, and MLS Legal Studies. As you can tell, I am interested in the legal field as well as psychology. I think the biggest problem I am having is finding the career fields that each of these degrees would apply to. I know that a master’s degree in psychology cannot be used for much, however, if I decide to go with psychology, I will likely pursue a PhD upon completion of the master’s degree. Any advice is appreciated. Thank you in advance!

If you are interested in another masters degree because you think it will lead to employment, why don’t you think first about how your current masters study can lead to a career? If your current studies are online, have you been able to find relevant internships and other types of professional involvement in your field? Are there some additional courses you might want to take to make you more employable? Have you found some local mentors in your area? I would not jump into another MS without trying to make your current masters program work for you.

Thank you for the reply. My current program was supposed to be an in-between program for law school. I am a stay at home mom with a lot of free time and a strong desire to continue to learn. My husband and I are looking to relocate (job market in Phoenix for attorneys is awful) so, I haven’t looked into internships yet given that I don’t know what city we’ll be in. I am eligible for internships in August so I intended to look then (provided we know where we’ll be). If I choose another master’s degree, it will not start until summer of next year. I am just looking for something that will complement my current master’s degree or go a different direction and pursue psychology.
