Okay here's my quick situation....I'm 33 and retooling after a 7 year punishment of working in banking and finance. I realized the job market was too competitive to try and find another job without a BA, and on top of that absolutely HATED the banking industry. I'm at 53 hrs now and have to make a decision around a major. I am definitely more suited for math and problem solving majors, but don't want to go through to the higher maths. I found that at my age I've forgotten too much about algebra and trig to excel at those classes. I managed to fumble my way to an A in calculus, and if required will take calc 2, but really want avoid the higher maths. I absolutely love economics, but don't want to do a standard business econ major as it would probably plant me back in a bank or somewhere similar.

Anyways I'm looking for a major that won't put me back into the "rat race". I also am worried about getting into something that doesn't have much practical application in the real world. Does anyone have much experience with these two majors and have some feedback?
