Deciding to go to ACC for summer 2012

Hey y'all so I'm planning on registering to go take classes at ACC. Some of their might be a walk in the park and that'd be nice and some of them might be just as hard as at UT, but really it's the cheaper price that's calling out to me.

Can anybody explain to me the process of getting into ACC for next summer? When should I apply and will it affect my status as a full-time Fall/Spring student at UT? Also, I've heard there's multiple campuses. Which one is closest to W. Campus?

Any advice is welcome.

Thanks.

I ended up applying for my son to go to ACC this summer (he has been ill and needed help). My main advice is to start early (March, maybe?). I waited until the last minute and it was almost a disaster. You have to send in a transcript and a residency form. You also have to get an ACC photo ID (DS happened to wear a UT shirt for it, lol) and go for advising before you can sign up for classes. A lot of classes fill up very quickly, so don’t procrastinate!

The Rio Grande campus is the most convenient to UT, but if you’re taking more than one class, you might have to go to another campus. Again, register early so you’ll have the best choice.

If you’re going to drive, make sure to get a parking permit. You’ll need one, no matter which campus you’re on.

My son has found the first semester of engineering physics at ACC to be OK. He has a B average. Better than I had when I took it at UT, ha!

Registering at ACC shouldn’t affect your status as a student at UT. That reminds me - I need to ask my son to find out how to transfer credits!

Good luck!

Ditto on what MaineLonghorn said.

I’m taking some classes at ACC Rio Grande (I live in West Campus) right now. Classes are a joke/breeze there compared to UT. Apply early and see your required advisor meeting early.

Parking permit is very cheap, only $15 for the whole summer! :D

MaineLonghorn - To transfer your credits to UT, just send your ACC transcript after classes are over to UT.

Xcellerator, thanks!

Don’t forgot the possibility of UT Extension Classes.

my d took two on line classes this summer from a texas Community college. They fulfilled her core requirements. relatively easy, and took little time…

My daughter filled a distribution requirement by self-studying a bit and then taking the sociology CLEP test.

I also take classes at ACC. It is a walk in the park getting into ACC, pretty much anybody can go there. Just make sure all your admissions papers are done by the time registration opens. Make sure you pay for classes by deadline, and your good. Classes are not that hard either.
