I love both Barnard and Northwestern and would love to go to either of the schools. The only issue is that my chances of getting in are much higher in the ED Pool. I have connections with board members at both schools, which will definitely help with ED, but my chances of getting into Northwestern regular are VERY slim, and not so hot at Barnard either. I am doing a gap year program in South Africa with limited access to internet, so I have to get all of my college stuff done before September 1, which is when I leave. Please Help Me! I am having such a hard time deciding what to do!

My Stats:
GPA: 3.6UW/4.3 W

PLEASE HELP! I need to figure out what I am doing! If you want me to chance you, just tell me and I will get right on it!

Like the above comment 3.6 is pretty low for Top Tier Private schools also a 3 on a AP test will do some damage. Unless you have over 2.1k (guess) on the SAT I would recommend rethinking the ED plan.

I’m pretty sure colleges don’t see your AP scores until you decide to go there and try to gain credit. Maybe do EA instead of ED (if that’s an option), it’s less binding and you won’t have to decide between the 2 right now.

Well without knowing your SAT/ACT scores, based on these stats, I would say you are right in the Barnard ball park, and have a much greater shot there. And Barnard ED I think would get you in (assuming your test scores are up to par).

I say Barnard. It seems like it would be easier for you to get in there compared to Northwestern, and Barnard is in a better location.
Chance me for Barnard as well?

3.6 weighted GPA
28 on ACT (will be retaking)
Taking 10 APs in total: Music Theory, World History, Lang and Comp, US History, Psych, Enviro Science, Macro, Art, Calc AB, Literature.
Involved in 7 clubs, on board of 3 of them (president for Key Club)
Volunteer at well known animal shelter for 2 years
Dancer (7+ hours per week)

I am hoping to major in something art related, possibly architecture. I visited Barnard and plan on having an interview this summer. I want to apply early but my parents want to compare financial aid packages.
What are my chances?

I agree with most of the above users except for JJoy15, though the 3.6 GPA will hinder you for Northwestern unless your SAT is good. I would suggest RD for NU since you probably have better chances at other places for ED or EA.
