deciding whether to take AP Lang...?

I always had just assumed that during my junior year, I would take AP Lang, AP Chem, APUSH, and maybe APES or AP Psych. However, I'm now reconsidering AP English Language.

Writing isn't a strong point of mine. I'm more of a math and science sort of person. I have heard horrible, terrible things about the work load and difficulty of the AP Language class at my school.

I'm a good student. Rank 10 out of 400 in my class, taking AP World History and AP Biology this year as a sophomore. Neither of them are problematic for me.

The main reasons I want to take AP Language are 1) to challenge myself to become a better writer, 2) to have another AP under my belt, 3) to be with my smart friends, rather than people I dislike who happen to take non-AP classes, 4) to foolishly uphold my "pride" in taking a difficult schedule, and 5) to get a 100 in that class. (Even in my worst subjects, I usually manage very high grades. And my school gives a 5 point curve for AP classes if you have an A, so I'm confident I could manage a 100.)

Now, though, it seems so daunting :( I don't want to cause myself unnecessary stress. So should I take it? Please offer advice.

[If it helps any:]
Junior schedule:
APUSH, AP Chem, AP Lang (?), Band, Gifted Math 3 (GA curriculum), and either Spanish 3, another AP, or Physics.
Senior:
Band, AP Physics, AP Calc, AP Lit, [2 misc. AP classes]

Thank you in advance!

There are many things you need to take into consideration, such as:

will your future college give you credit for exam? (if not, why even take the exam?)

Does your future college allow multiple exams to satisfy the same requirement? (if yes, don’t take both exams)

My personal advice is to take as many ap exams as possible with the intention that all of those exams will be accepted at your future school. I am sure most people don’t know that often times ap english and ap english lit will satisfy the same class requirement. So if you got 3s on both of those exams you will only get credit for one of those 3s. The other 3 basically goes to waste, in other words you didn’t need to take that second class. Watch out for that.

Here is a good guide to read if you are serious about planning your AP course load EFFECTIVELY.

I’m a lot like you, and I would suggest NOT doing it. I’ve had a bad experience.

I have a few friends like you. The ones who ended up taking AP english did not like it very much at all, although they did become better writers and at least managed to pull Bs.
