Hi
I'm currently deciding between applying to either the Music Business program at Steindhardt, or simply applying to Stern. I have not had formal music instruction but have been studying and playing by myself for the past 3 years. Academics 2240,36 act, 93 avg
I'm curious if between these schools, will one give more financial aid, or will one give more merit? I know NYU is notorious for bad aid and I would need a good package to attend. Also, how hard would it be to transfer into MB or into Stern after acceptance?
Thank You!
Edit: Also is it possible to minor in MB, and major in stern?

1) There is no difference in aid awards between the two schools. I’m not too sure about what I’m about to say next, but I think Stern has the Stern Scholars program wherein you get more finaid for having really good stats (like your 36 ACT).

2) Internal transfers are known to be extremely hard. Last year, Stern had a 96 percent retention rate so that basically opens up 4 percent of the spots for internal AND external transfers to compete for.

3) No, you cannot minor in MB because it is a specialized program where you need to submit a portfolio and everything. However, the BEMT minor/ BEMT specialization sounds like what you’re looking for - if you choose to study the BEMT minor you may specialize in music business (or film, or video games, whichever one you prefer).
