Unfortunately, racist things happen and are said everywhere. Not just in the south. Some of the most racist awful things I’ve heard have been when I’ve been in the midwest and in the NE.

There was a part of the Crimson White website called “Changing Tides” a little while ago that dealt with race, but I think they deleted it. I think it had an article about how UA is somewhat self-segregated as well (as in, blacks stay with black people and whites stay with white people by choice), but my memory might be fuzzy.

There probably was such an article. That theme has been a concern on virtually all campuses. There have been many articles written that students on campuses across this country “self-segregate”.

Here’s a book that mentions the issue in its title: <a href=“Online Bookstore: Books, NOOK ebooks, Music, Movies & Toys | Barnes & Noble®”>Online Bookstore: Books, NOOK ebooks, Music, Movies & Toys | Barnes & Noble®;

There was a discussion about this issue on CC last year. Schools don’t know how to deal with it.

I’ll find the more recent articles and post.

Maybe you could try looking up some information about Miami specifically for 2smart2cute, since UA and Miami are the only 2 schools she’s strongly considering : )

Well like I said before, Miami is much more diverse. However the racial tension in Miami is intense. The Latinos and African Americans don’t jell to well. It doesn’t help that Miami is one of the poorest cities in America…

Oh and there is this whole Southern Pride and it’s not hate it’s Heritage thing you’ll learn about in Alabama. I’d say just visit both and you’ll get a feel for which school is better for you.
