I just got an email from Penn saying that my decision will be available at 4 pm eastern instead of 3 pm eastern to avoid an overload of their server. They said that their server is usually equipped to handle problems, but they’ve had some technical difficulties so they’ll only be posting some of the decisions at 3 pm. Did anyone else get this message?

hmm...interesting...didn't get anything about that...

No i didn't get this... I'm scared that they don't even have my e-mail or that they didn't get it right or something....

Doesn't sound right.....3400 hits is hardly a lot of hits. Even if it was, seems a lot easier to use dual servers than to email people and move timeslots around. Not everyone will check at 3 anyway. I just asked my son if he was coming home right after school and he said he has basketball practice and told me to chill.

yeah i got the same email...i thought it was weird

When did you guys recieve this e-mail? Tonight? or today?

I dont think its true that you cant get your decision online b/c most of the people that they e-mail will try anyways and that will result in the same server load. Moreover, if they dont give you your decisions, most people will be refreshing the page over and over for that hour after school, which will result in a MUCH greater load.

3400 hits isn't that bad.

3400 hits in around 5 seconds, however, is.

Penn's server ain't google's. They can't handly 1000 hits a second without getting under some strain.

Though while Penn's servers aren't Google's, it would be safe to assume they are running IIS, or at least something as stable. IIS is capable of handling incredible traffic, especially if load balanced across multiple servers. 3400 hits in around half a second should be no issue. You only encounter problems on a single, dual processor xenon server running IIS when you get into the hundreds of thousands of hits per second.

Servers aren't the problem, bandwidth limitation, on the other hand, is.

I didn't get any email...

but Penn has never sent me anything. I requested my login info about 10 times and never got it when I was waiting patiently for it.

E-mail servers are a different story. wait patiently.

nope, I never ever ever got an email from Penn.

I requested my login about 10 times, it said my email was in their database and theyd send it shortly... and theyve never come. and that was like 2 weeks ago.

Choco...I think you are really trying to reach 1499...lol.

I don't think they send it to EVERYONE. I think they only send it to kids who they are going to delay the posting for. So, choco, if you didn't get the email, your decision will be on time..woohoo!

cool.

Yeah I am trying to get 1499.. help me by going to the or thread!

I'm heading to school right now, but I just wanted to say good luck to you guys, whether you're finding out at 3 or 4. :D When I get home, I hope to see that somehow ALL of you have been accepted!
